Hi David...you're certainly getting some great responses on the uniform and lace detail from Justin and Johan...fantastic to have all that info. We all learn a little along the way.

I just wanted to say that I thought you done a great job in conquering your earlier problem with the eyes on the preceeding page and commend the advice given there too.

It takes a lot of effort and courage to go in and make those kind of changes to something you've already worked so hard on...and you've got yourself a great result. The changes you made have given the face a much more natural look..

Keep up the good work....looking forward to the rest of him taking shape..

All the best.

Roy.

DAVE!

Almost forgot to clarify! The entire collar would be white - lace and all!

Does this make sense?

Justin :)

Justin, im not sure what you mean by entire colar. Everthing that is extruding through he top of the buff coat should be white or just the lace?

The sleeves as noted previously; the sash around the waist, red/crimson.

Ok, the other shirt is finished and the lace is complete. For the other shirt i used Sap Green and Gold Ochre with shadows done in Sap Green and highlights done wet on wet with Gold Ochre. The lace is white mixed with Panes Grey, the highlights are straight white and the shadows are Panes Grey. I used an acrylic wash on the lace detail and then went back and drybrushed white oils later. The belt, sash and armor have been undercoated in acrylics.

Question...the feathers in the hat, do they have any significance? Do the have to be the color of the sash? The shirt? Or any color i chose? Thanks!

Beautiful! :)

The belt can be plain leather (buff coat colour or brown-ish) with either silver or gold inlay.

With a darker metallic gorget (the armour on the chest) the inlay might be nice as silver, but the gold would tie in well wit the sleeves! Just a thought. ;)

Finished Figure:

The armor was undercoted in black and then done in Mr Metal Colors using Dark Iron and Silver. The crossbelt is undercoted in black and then drybrushed with Valejo Old Gold.. I also edged the armor with old gold over a brown undercote and highlighted with plain gold. The feathers are middlestone base with white oils drybrushed over. Then i went in with a light wash to darken the detail.

Thanks for all the help with this guys. Any final thoughts or comments are most welcome!

Any comments on this guys? I know my work isnt as good as some here but i could really use the feedback, did this turn out ok? Any points or suggestions on what could be done better? Good things about the bust? I post these here so that i can become a better painter but i could use your assistance. Thanks! :)

David, I like this piece. Your flesh tones, cuirasse and cross belt are especially well done. I think overall the piece would benefit most from cleaning up the lines a bit. For instance; there is some white from the feather on the hat brim, some brown from the hair also shows up on the collar. Terrific job on the eyes. Hope this helps.
