Here is my finished version of a 90mm Civil War era Union Artillery Officer. This is an old (possibly older than me) series 77 figure that my dad had sitting in his basement. He decided he wasn’t ever going to paint it and offered it to me.

I took some of the advice from my previous post and tried to do more with the light/dark contrast in his uniform. I think the end result is better, though I am not happy with how the dark blue coat looks in the photographs.

The red as well as the emblem on his hat identify him as a member of the artillery. Officers provided their own uniforms, so the coat is non regulation. I’m including a few reference photos below. The uniform on the left is that of an enlisted man, but in the artillery. The gear in the other two photographs are examples of what an officer might have.

Looks pretty good. I think you could push a little further into the shadows for more depth especially on the red around his waist. I'll bet that kit is old, I have seen some series 77 kits recently and the boxes look ancient.
