Recently, Mike Cramer of Michael Miniatures graciously offered me the opportunity to paint the box art for an upcoming release. This is a bust of a German Hussar ca. 1910 and it's a beautiful kit, sculpted by Carl Ried. You can view some pics of the unpainted bust at their website (there's a link on the right side of this page). Attached is a pic of my progress to date. The redish brown color is a joy to paint, but the painter also has the option to depict several other regiments in different colors with no resculpting necessary. Everything painted black in the pic is only undercoated and will eventually be silver lace. Hope you enjoy, more to come . . .

Fine start Jason, very smooth transitions on the red, not at all easy in this scale ! I really like the subjects Mike is doing and will following this with interest.

Thanks Marcel and Tony!

Tony - there's not a lot of technique to it, its just a matter of getting the color right - in this case, I used German Camo Black Brown, Red Leather, Goldbrown, and Golden Yellow (all Vallejo). Using sharp, extreme highlights helps simulate the reflectivity of gold.

Hi! Jason.
The color of the uniform is wonderful.
It's gorgeous and very beautiful.
I'm looking forward to completion of your work very much.
