Gary - is sweet potato your fave? Or do you care about colour? Believe it or not I find that the colour of the sculpey can influence the sculpting result.

I like terracotta and if ever forced to use black or dark blue, I don't think I could even push the putty.

Also, differnt colours seem to have different consistency. At my local art store, terra cotta and white are available in the larger boxes as per fleshy supersculpey - but the consistency is very soft and oily. :(

Colin, The color was suggested by sculptor Rod Griffith. It's not too light or too dark and works fine to see tool marks, but is not overpowing to the eye. I typically will mix the regular peach colored sculpey with it, and that tends to tone down the orange look a bit.

Richard, Thanks my friend.~Gary

Gary, I believe you said this lovely 120mm US marine was intended to be manufactured as a kit ... yep, it's a while ago, but I didn't forget about him and I have him on my wish list ! ;)
Is there any news, who is the manufacturor and where could I order one ?

Thanks,

Johan

Johan, The manufacturer is Michael Roberts Ltd, and I think the release may be sometime in August. Please do not hold me to this as I only remember that it was a Summer release.~Gary

Gary,
I gotta have this piece...it's awesome my friend...simply incredible. I'll be in touch with the Sergeant Major.

All the best

Patrick

Gary, that is clearly your best work yet, and since I first saw an old Series 77 figure of the same subject (anyone remember the article in FSM 20 years ago, written by Munne, Knee, and Ottinger?), it's been one of my favorite uniforms. I hope Mike charges $80 for the figure and pays you a bonus!

Thanks Gary ! ;)

I'll watch Mike Stelzel's website, and I'll start looking around here in Europe to see who sells it overhere. Perhaps Historex Agents of England will have it in stock.

Yes, it's a great subject, I've seen pics. of the uniform and I have distant recollections of pictures of an old Series 77 figure ... they did have some nice figures, pity that I entered the hobby too late.

I can't wait for this one, meanwhile does anybody have any ideas re. groundwork etc. for this figure? Did the US marines participate in any conflicts in ca. 1836? It would be nice to find out more about the early history of the USMC, this would help a great deal with the "preparation" of the painting and ideas conc. the displaying of this soon to be released figure.

Gary, I'm glad your marine is going to be available as a kit ! Once again, a lovely figure, and would like to see more 120mm stuff from you ! (y)

I'm pretty new to the site, so still exploring, etc. Frankly, I'm normally not very interested in figures outside my historical period of interest - WWI, BUT...Wow! What a great job! I echo one of the comments - it looks very "painter friendly". As well as authentic, expressive and artistically pleasing. How many figures have you done? When will it be offered? Who is the kit maker?

Fellas, Thanks I appreciate all the kind words, I spent a lot of time doing the master pattern. I'm kind've in a sculpting "funk" right now doing a few personal things that are going at too sluggish of a pace for me. "Oh motivation where art thou."~Gary

For everyone interested in Gary's 1836 Marine I can tell you that it will be available in October. I will release it at the MMSI Chicago Show. You can preorder the figure by emailing me at [email protected]. The price will be $41.95 plus post.

Gary, my friend, that is a beautiful sculpture, it truly reflects your great talent for sculpting, I tip my hat off to you. (y)

This figure is a must have, it's begging for a step by step on the planet. ;)

Keep up the great work and maybe someday you'll sculpt a Roman.

Cheers.

Roc. :)

Guys, Thanks I do appreciate all the kind words over the past months. Sorry, I won't be at Chicago, maybe next year.~Gary
