Hi All,

Here my new project. No buste this time but maybe my First figure I ever bought (other than the usual 1/35). I bought this at Euro Militair 2013.
I never suspect I really can make something of it but with my bustes as a motivation I go for it.

Hi Martin

Your on a USA run then ...lol

Nice sculpted figure and a good start ...are you using same mixes as in your great Airborne bust ?

Following with interest

Happy benchtime

Very nice work Martin. Jump-suit colour looks spot on. 82nd wore the Stars and Bars on the right sleeve - 101st didn't. The leg-ties were sewn into the inseam just below the crotch of the trousers and were often tied through the thigh pocket flaps. Wore this kit many times as a re-enactor back in the day. Much more comfortable than battledress and Denison, and the Corcorans - I could (and did) wear them all weekend with no discomfort. Happy days:)
Looking forward to seeing this one progress

Cheers

Hi Martin

Now this is coming on really nicely really like the colour and the shadowing is very effective indeed on the uniform

Boots look the business as well again like the painting

Stars and bars looks good as well ....dread to think of the size it is !

The sculpt looks very good indeed and your painting is certainly bringing this to life

Interesting details and facts ref the wearing of the badge from Phil ( thought I remembered you did reenacting )

Look forward to more on this

Happy benchtime

Thanks all

@ Nap, the next update was more challenging. The sculpt is excellent and a lot of fun to paint.

Thanks Phil, the patch is sculpted as a 101st but because of your reply about the stars and strips I made a 82nd. (unfortunately I didn't make the bottom square)
the main body and arms are finished. Next up the hands and newspaper.

Hi Martin
Looking very good. The 82nd "All American" was the first of the airborne units to form although the 101st "Screamin' Eagles" enjoyed more publicity. There was strong rivalry which may be why, before D-day the 82nd were based in Leicestershire and the 101st in Berkshire - 120km apart! I have that from an 82nd veteran, who I had the honour to meet in Normandy in 2014.

Have you thought of what you might depict him reading? How about a copy of "Yank" or better still, looking longingly at a Varga girl:D

I'm on this one and watching intently.

Phil

Off to a good start. I am following this one closely because I have the MMM pair on the bench (well close by anyway) and I have this one packed away somewhere in my GGA

Hi Martin

That uniforms looks really impressive

Great detail on the patch from Phil ...I certainly learned something !

Like the idea of the "Yank" but the Varga girl would be fun ....and interesting research

Thanks for sharing

Happy benchtime

PS Just googled Varga girl ........off to A & E ...lol

Good move there. The original barrel looks a bit bent
Here is my adapted M1 carbine

View attachment 395787

The barrel is replaced with a messing tube. A small peice of Photo edge (from my Scale models) was added for the aiming sight.

Good move there Martin. The original barrel looks a bit bent, The folding carbine was a nice, light bit of kit to carry about but was almost useless as a combat weapon. The cartridge lacked hitting power. The movies have bigged it up but most veterans I spoke to said their mates dumped them in favour of M1 Garands.

Head looks excellent. What's the figure got strapped to his right ankle?

Phil

Hi Martin

Head looks good ...at least he is looking down so eyes weren't that bad to paint ...hopefully !

As Phil says good move ref barrel and interesting fact about the weapon

Possibly a field dressing strapped to the right ankle ?

Thanks for updates

Happy benchtime
