Hey folks,

Currently i am using enamels, but I want to transfer over to Vallejos Acrylics. The Problem is that there is no store in my area where i can buy them.
So i want to order something like a "basic pallete of colors" from an online-shop.
Which colors should i buy then that i don't need to order them for a while?
Is there a Set where i can buy the basic colors?

I usally paint WW2 Figures, and maybe some knights in the future..

thx in adv. David

It maybe too much to buy the set of 72 colours - you may find you don't like acrylics!

This store came to my attention yesterday:

Netmerchants

Bluesking, they seem to be near you in Larne.

There are small pallettes of colours available on the right of the page I've linked, that may be better to test the water so to speak.

The site also offers loads of other stuff as well suited to our hobby. Don't know what the postage would be to Austria, but things are generally cheap - you can get a Euro conversion as well.

I would think that Rob's comment is worth bearing in mind before you buy - you'd want to be pretty sure you really like this kind of paint before getting quite this many, I painted in acrylics for years before I tried Vallejos and I didn't like them at all.

72 paints is probably too many colours but if the price works out good per bottle it could be worth it. But there are a number in the set that most modellers will find practically no use for - e.g. Fluorescent Orange, Lime Green, Transparent Red - and many that would be very easy to mix from other paints - e.g. Off White, Beige, some of the sands and browns - so a lot depends on how much you like to mix paint or if you prefer to have a wide selection of readymade colours on hand, which you might coming from an enamel background.

Most hobbyists don't like to mix fleshtones too much so you'll probably want a couple of those at least and specific uniform shades for your chosen era would probably be worth having, with white, black and a couple of other basic colours that's probably your best bet as a starting palette.

hi David
i have gone the same way a year ago.Best thing i ever done.
My advice is to convert the same colours that BILL HORAN uses in acrylics.
This at the beginning will be enough. Then you can check out Lilliput web site.
Look at the articles section. You will get a lots of great ideas.
If then you should need more advice you can e mail me.
Iwill be happy to help you.
You will find that the trasition to acrylics is quite a "cultural shock" but well worthed
good luck
Roberto ;)

@all: ty for your answers

@Rob: Yes this store is pretty cheap, but it cost me ~50€ shipping and ~20€ tax wich makes it far more expensive then the shop i want it to buy.

@quang: I noticed them also, but i would like to buy a "alround pack", those packages are also available from vallejo.

@Einion: I already used acrylics a bit and i liked them. You are right i wont need some colors of the box, thats why asked for a list of important colors.

@pkw4: wich colors does bill horan use?

yours David

Hi everybody
what i mean is :
for skin tones use flesh red leathter scarlet and natural wood hilight whit more flesh and white. Darker areas add more scarlet red leather and black.
Most colours (e.i. red blue black grey .....) are "killed" by adding some natural wood and black in the base mix.For hilights and faded areas flesh white and natural wood are used. For darker areas black blue and dark red or brown
(depend by wich colour you are painting).
This colours can be Humbrol or Vallejo(i do not mean to use them togheter).
In the cese of Valleyo acrylics English Uniform can be used instead of natural wood and flesh is called Basic skintone.
regards
Roberto
