Thus is Verlinden's 120mm depiction of Ernst Tiburzy, one of Germany's most highly decorated Volksturm commanders.

Quite a simple figure, and hard to make look interesting. Indeed, this one has now been stripped down twice, making this it's third paint job. The base for the jacket was Vallejo German Uniform, and for the trousers, Basalt Grey.

Carl - Many thanks.

Mobo - Thank you.

Graham - Glad you approve. I forgot to say that the map case is extra to the kit, added for interest.

Mike - I prefer Vallejo German Uniform, which is greener that their Field Grey. An opportunity to share my favourite bit of reference:

All genuine German 2WW uniforms, from oldest top left to most recent lower right. As many variants of 'field grey' as you could want.

Fantastic makeover Peter. Awesome work.

This is another Verlinden that I also did early on in my painting "career". And another one that I was minded to strip down and re-do, but alas he got damaged beyond justifiable repair during a move so I never bothered.

I never knew that this figure was based on an actual person.

Another nice one, Peter. I like the way you do your flesh tones & leather effects - the gloves & map case are particularly realistic, & shading on the jacket & breeches likewise.

Like Steve, I never knew this figure was based on a real person; I always thought it was a composite of various "fantasy" parts,
Kudos to you for the research!

Morning Peter

Well done getting back in the smaller scale figures, it will help fill the bench for a few weeks too, hopefully?

The emphasis does change as you have said, more about the overall impression and great drapery with the simple palette.

The little nuggets of colour sparkle with the cuff band, collar tabs and leatherwork, very nice.

Looks good and you seem to have make the change of size with just a few bumps but got there with a cracking finish.

Hopefully the next victim will be less traumatic.

Have a good day with the paints

Regards

Steve H

Chris - Cheers. I perhaps felt I should try a bit harder to make this one look interesting, I thought he looked too singular to have just been invented, so I Googled 'German Officer with eyepatch' and up popped Tiburzy.

Steve - It's been nice getting back into 120mm and much helped by this simple figure. I've got a few others bathing in Cif, but I'm finding that those with varnish won't clean up without a lot of scraping. I'm glad that you like this one.

Dettol (the traditional brown stuff) should shift it Peter. Try that. It shifts pretty much anything, although it will also dissolve putty, so bear that in mind if you've done any filling work on a piece.

And avoid the cheaper supermarket "own-brand" Dettol wannabes - they are (in my experience) rubbish. Accept no substitute!

Thanks Steve, I'll try that. I have already tried the Dettol surface cleaner, but the traditional mix sound spromising.

Hi Peter

Still trying to catch up here ....certainly not heard of this soldier so it was interesting to look him up

Nice painting on the uniform colours , like the highlighting , also like the variation as well and the detail painting on the cuff-band

Interesting the eagle size in the picture of him

Thanks for sharing

Happy benchtime

Nap

Hi Nap - An interesting figure for sure. The cap eagle does look big in the portrait, but I suppose everything was getting a bit non-standard towards the end of the war.

Pedro - Many thanks.
