I've spent the last week working on this 120mm offering from Verlinden. A deceptively simple figure, but actually consisting of17 parts and lot of rope to make (a length of string is provided, but not enough, so I also used copper wire and flexible plastic rod).

The box art has this colour scheme:

A1208-055x1-10oz_eaeac75e-74a1-4b09-859c-82b954ff8bb8_grande.jpg

The blue jacket with the hussar-style lacing didn't look right to me, and a bit of research dug up the original inspiration for the figure:

She looks more correct with this colouring. The base colours for the clothing were Vallejo Deep Green for the Jacket with the lace picked out in Old Gold, and Cavalry Brown for the skirt. The only bit of the kit I swapped was the right hand, which was holding a cup ass per the illustration, but it was modelled at a very awkwardly.

Superb painting there Peter. Nice variety of colours that all come together and complement each other really well. And I have never seen one of these painted up before.

ooh very nice ,Peter.
great decision on the colours too- I've only ever seen them in blue coats in illustrations, but you tracked it down good and proper

Lovely painting on this Peter. I agree with the others over colours.

One of Verlindens better pieces, they did produce some real turkeys.

Nice work Peter, on a piece I am completely ignorant of. A bit "off the wall" for Verlinden, but as Bill says, one of his better ones by the look of it.

A great paint job on this one. I've this one for years, but never painted her because I disliked the sculpting of the face. A cartoon of a face in my opinion. Always searching for a replacement head, but have not found one

Many thanks for commenting people. I know Verlinden figures have their faults, but having cut my teeth on, them they still have a place in my heart.

Morning Peter

You have been busy, and doing some ""Real Modelling"" too with the string swap.

Lovely colour palette and a well researched change for the better.

Another success, well done.

Whatever next?

Still working on figures?

Enjoy the paints, as the weather is awful.

Regards

Excellent paintwork once again Peter....Love what you do with These Verlinden Figgies. They certainly are classics and have deserved their place in our history books….great stuff.

Steve - Morning. Quite a bit of 'real modelling' involved with this one. I'm glad you like her. I think another figure next, but as there is nothing in the stash that particularly appeals I'm going to wait on the post - very slow again locally due to Covid. A very stormy night here, but a trip to Whitstable in the offing - should be refreshing!

Pete - Very pleased that you like our gal. I have a few more Verlindens to work on - at least I know that the casting and fit will be good.

I guess FV brought figure painting to the masses in a way. I'll hold my hand up and admit, to my recollection I have never painted one, not even one of the two my brother did for him - not because I thought they were poor, chiefly because he never seemed to release anything that appealed to me. I agree Peter, his casting was by and large first class, Still a lot out there in grey armies around the planet.

Hi Peter

Well that's a great paint ..so much better than the box art for sure , like your colours especially the green and the work on the lacing , nice highs on that red skirt as well

Thanks for sharing

Happy benchtime

Peter - I followed your example & ordered 3 of the nicer original early Verlinden sculpts from Amati, & I'm glad I did.

Ordered last weekend & arrived beautifully packed via FedEx yesterday. I'll definitely order from them again, so thanks for the tip.

The only slight issue I have (& it is a very slight one) is that when it comes to VP's early green resin & cleanup/assembly, I can only work on cutting & sanding the parts for a very short time because the resin gives off such a powerful smell - & that's with a mask on & the windows open! Because I'd not worked on a VP kit for years, I'd forgotten how smelly his resin was......I know others have mentioned this on the forum before, but it really had slipped my mind.

Hi Chris. Glad that Amati have sorted you out - I have found their service to be exemplary.

Amazing that the resin still smells so strong. I lost my sense of smell in my twenties, so don't have a problem, though of course it means I don't take the precautions I perhaps should.

Have fun.
