Verlinden Resin

I've been using resin aftermarket pieces for armor models as well as figures over the years in all different shades and hardnesses and have yet to come across this.

I am currently working with my first Verlinden piece, a 120mm Panzerschreck and any time it's touched, even just scraped, it emits a sickly sweet odor. I haven't come across any voids or anything that would tell me it wasn't mixed, it's solid (maybe a bit brittle) and it's been out of the box, exposed to air for a few months now after a good washing.

I just lightly ran an exacto over a spot to remove a bit of paint and I'm hit with an odor as if it just came out of the mold.

Is this typical and I've just been buying higher quality stuff until now or did I get a bad cast?

That's normal, just a different brand or resin. They do use (back in the day) very high quality resin. (kind of smells like mothballs)

That describes it well, it's a sort of camphory odor.

Its probably an Epoxy resin or polyester which was commonly used before the now used Polyurethane resins which dont have the smell like the previous resins.
Some of those old resins never loose that awful smell no matter how long they have cured.

Thanks for that info, certainly sheds light on it. I thought the urethane resins have been around forever.
