Thanks Gordon. That face is a joy to paint, Pavol’s done you proud with this one.

Neal
Pavol has made a great job of both which are full of character. Plenty of wrinkles and creases to have a go at. I can't remember ever painting a bust of an old man and think it might be quite challenging.
Has your lad painted his bust yet?

Cheers

Not yet Gordon. He keeps on at me to get him started on it but mine are taking precedence at the mo!

Just the actual medal to do ...added a tie pin of para wings as well

Will set up a WIP soon ....it's been commented ref the skin creases and wrinkles and it does work well

As Grod says certainly can't think of anything else like ...not sure if possible but a female veteran woukd be good as well

Look forward to seeing more updates

Happy benchtime

I'm very glad you like it. The bust was created by accident. During the break between projects I wanted to relax from the delicate faces that I realized. So for me to do no name face was relax. When I had a face, it seemed to me that the beret would testify. Then I thought of the veteran. I contacted Gordon and he was excited because he had the same idea in his head. So we combined ideas and realized this proud old man for you.

Could do with a little help in identifying the pin badges if anybody has any ideas. His medal bar I’ve done as what is presumably a standard set namely 39-45 Star, France and Germany Star, Defence medal and War Medal. The pin badge above the poppy is one I need to identify and the top badge on the opposite lapel with what seem to be wings protruding. I’m happy the one below it is the HM Armed Forces Veteran badge and the one below the Free French cross of Lorraine. As for the medal on his right chest, a few of Nap’s reference pictures he added show a broad red centre band flanked by thin dark blue bands and then pale blue broad bands on the outer edges. What medal is this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Neal

I reckon the pin badge above the poppy is the Normandy veterans association as below

The one on the right is the Normandy veterans medal image.jpeg which would make sense with the NVA badge

The winged badge ...perhaps a regimental version ?

Hope this helps others as well

Thanks as always Nap for the great reference material. I had thought it may be the Normandy Veterans Association shield but the thing that was throwing me was the one on the bust seems to have a scroll under it whereas the picture didn’t-May be an alternate version possibly.
