Thanks for lookin', guys!

I've made some more progress on this, now. All thats left to do, is the head and shield design. The boots will be painted when I fix the figure to its base, along with the weatherin'.

For the axehead I used some thinned GW Boltgun Metal straight from the pot, and then shaded and weathered it with a mix of Burnt Umber and Lamp Black. I don't think i'll be applyin' any blood effects, due to the meanin', tribute and dedication of this figure.

Here is the shield, finished.

I masked it off and airbrushed it Tamiya XF-57 Buff. Then free-hand I painted in thin guidelines for the shield design, with some thinned Vallejo Red. Havin' achieved the correct symmetry, blocked in the colour, and any stray lines were brush painted over with XF-57 Buff, thinned. Mixes of Burnt Umber and Lamp Black were then applied for shade effects.

Re: Viking

It's just getting better and better, Paul! Can't wait to see the finished figure.

You mentioned you were going to tone down the colors, but I can't see a difference if you've done it already (might be the photo lighting). FWIW, I've always thought of this figure as invoking the favor of the Norse gods before he started out on a raid. Maybe somewhat clean and shiny is the way to go...?

Cheers,

Glen

I've left it til now to mention to you guys that this wil be a tribute to my mother who died of cancer three weeks ago. I thought that the pose of this figure could be interpreted in many ways.
To me, it represents strength, courage, fortitude, bravery and loss, the first four my mother had in abundance in fightin' her disease, for nine years.

The base will have a custom sized, brass placque engraved with a tribute to her.

Cheers guys!

The figure is finished but for the boots and some weatherin'. Anyway, here is the face.
I've jus' noticed that there is a paint mistake on the helmet, that'll be sorted!

Saluti MAB :)

Thanks guys!

Godfather, the boss on the shield was painted with GW colours, a mix of Boltgun Metal, and Chaos Black to darken it. Then it was very lightly drybrushed with Boltgun Metal straight from the pot, and then shaded with oils - Burnt Umber and Lamp Black.
