Does anyone have a 90mm German helmet with a camouflage cover?

I'm working on the Andrea German Sniper 1944, and I'm keen to do something different. Most examples that I've seen have the figure on the kit base, shooting through a window from a pile of rubble and wearing the white winter reversible smock.

I want my sniper shooting out in a forest scene in the Ardennes, wearing the Waffen SS Oakleaf B autumn camouflage pattern reversible smock.

To me it seems unlikely that a sniper would not have a camouflage helmet cover, which is my only criticism of this kit (Oh, and no sniper would shoot from a position where the barrel of the rifle was protruding from a window frame).

Can anyone help. I'm happy to pay for the helmet and the postage to send it to Australia.

Hi Tony,
I cannot recall ever seeing one in 90mm, but it should not be a difficult job to replicate with a layer of putty. There are plenty of very good reference images about and if you get the basic folds etc right it would be more about the painted camo pattern.
cheers
Richie

I agree with his suggestion about making one. Of course, you could use netting, wire, or straps, to hold vegetation on the helmet. Snipers tried to blend in with there surroundings, a camo helmet cover was not always used. I like your idea of putting this figure in an Ardenne setting, it would look better displayed that way. The photo of the vegetation is from Hudson & Allen, called Pine Boughs, very realistic, and would look good with your scene, maybe on the helmet. I could send you some if you can't find them in your area. Hope the reference photos help a little. Best of luck with this project Tony, I'll be watching for it. Regards, SG

Hi SG,

Thank you very much for the reference photos - they are perfect for my research. I like the idea of using chicken wire mesh on the helmet too. I'll see if I can source some Hudson & Allen pine boughs locally, but if not, I'd love to get a few from you. Thanks very much for your help and your encouragement- this is what makes pF such a great resource for figure modellers.

You're welcome Tony. Let me know if you need the pine boughs, or any other references, glad to help. Regards, SG
