Wanted : Horse!

Looking for 120mm [1/16th scale] horse.

Its to go with a Mongol, so should be a short, stocky pony type?

The horse from Verlinden 877 [Steppe Warrior] or 1256 [Mounted Samurai] would fit the bill - unless someone knows of a better option?

Thoughts/Comments/Suggestions welcome!

Hi Ian,
Thinking laterally, I have used a couple of horses from the Schleich toy range with 120mm samurai. Samurai horses should be smaller than usually seen and even the horse with the Verlinden mounted Samurai is too big, more like a modern racehorse! The Schleich range vary in size, depicting a variety of breeds. They are a medium hard plastic but with a bit of work and undercoated they can be pretty useful. Many of the ponies approximate to 120mm for asian horses. I got some a few years ago from a Mothercare store and they were cheap enough to experiment with.

Alternatively, try a scale down from other ranges. ie using a 90 mm horse with 120mm samurai, or a 75mm horse with a 90mm figure.

ebay has a verlinden 120mm mounted hun steppe warrior but, you would have to buy the whole kit just for the horse.

Look for a pony figurine 8cm tall at the withers that will be the ideal for a Mongolian pony.
