[CGS military figures]

Hello,
I believe this fits criteria of this thread for announcements, figure news and something to say.
We would like to thank Malcolm Cumming and Alex Long. Wellington is now our new box art as is the Dragoon by Alex.
Our products have recently been in the Waterloo Military Modelling Special.
The waterloo commanders have been going well and David Grieve himself has seen it.
Thanks to all, grab a copy if you like and thanks to all that support us.

There was a lot of debate on the MM forum that this edition was too heavily orientated to figures with not enough armour (how many articles on painting a Tiger tank can you read ) , but truth be that if sales are good then the publishers will devote more time to figures.

Long and the short, if you want a figure magazine in the UK (or at least a modelling magazine with more figure content) then buy a copy

You cannot (as a flawed genius once opined) be serious!!!

Of course a "Waterloo Special" is going to be figure-orientated - given that the first tanks were still a century in the future.

What do they expect?!!!

I despair for the human race sometimes ...

They've alienated their figure readership completely and I can't see the English speaking figure community being significant enough to add much revenue if they refocus....so it will be tanks and trucks going forward with the odd bust or driver figure. Call me skeptical. Anyway this is off topic I guess.

This bust is now produced in resin by CGS as are all the Waterloo commanders that were originally produced by David Grieve in metal.

Debora Raymond took over the range originally from David with Graham from CGS taking over from Debora (are you still with me)

The range has lost none of their original sharpness in Graham's capable hands and are great value for money.

Regarding the magazine I bought a copy and found it very good like the old days. I wanted to read the articles by top painters on top figures and was not disappointed but like many I don't believe this will be repeated by MM.

I brought this a few weeks back,it's the first one I've purchased in over 2 years,it's a great read with some excellent painting examples in it including Graham's busts of Wellington and the French dragoon,definately recommend this one

I think Ken Jones is the consultant editor,after collecting it for nearly 30 years I gave up on it in 2012,I don't think anything will change with regards to AFVs,these will still be the dominant feature,however I hope I'm proved wrong

One of the main reasons I started writing figure articles for Mil Mod was to help redress the balance. For me it had become another AFV magazine, of which there are plenty to choose from already. Kelvin the Editor had been asking for more figure articles as he was receiving very few submissions, so I stepped up. I'm sure if anybody here on PF feels like writing for the magazine Kelvin would be pleased to receive submissions. Perhaps the balance can be shifted further towards figures again?

By the way, thanks to those who bought the magazine and enjoyed the articles.

Maybe Kevin could have contacted those who were writing figure related articles for Mil Mod when he took over? I don't think it's up to the writers to start the conversation with the new "boss"; feels a bit like begging to continue publishing our articles. I think he lost a lot of us "figure writers" that way as there are little from back then who have appeared in Mil Mod since the new editor took over. Just my 2 cents and maybe one of the biggest reasons why I stopped writing articles for Mil Mod.

Now back to the painting which has become more relaxing without the article writing.

Thank you for all your feedback on the magazine, and the support for more figure orientated issues.
As Alex has mentioned, there is a wealth of talent on this forum, and hopefully some of you may fancy putting pen to paper, or as they say nowadays, finger to keyboard.
Joking aside, the more figure contributors the better.
And perhaps we can restore the balance, so please give it some serious thought. I for one would love to see the return of the Figure Special.

I've a couple more articles on the go, one of which is another from CGS miniatures, but I'm going to stay stum on which piece it is.
I must also congratulate Graham on the high quality of casting throughout his range.
My own collection from this range is growing rapidly, and come Euro i expect it to grow even larger.

The only reason military modelling continues showing figures is purely thanks to the efforts of a couple of valiant contributors.
I cannot hold out any hope whatsoever, that the current editor has inay interest long term in putting more figures into this publication.

Firstly as soon as he took the reins of the mag he started putting aeroplanes in it and abandoned the letters page as a temprary measure while the magazine had a rehash under new editorship.
No-one had the opportunity to say publicly how they fllt about this and as a consquence the publication quickly abandoned figure reviews and products and became a vehicle magazine.

The only reason I have ever bought a copy since is the remarkable contribution of Emmanuelle Nouallier's scenery and the work of our talented figure painters here and there, thanks very much guys I sirely value your work as it hopefully brings more figure painters to the fore.

There is no point dressing up the point I'm making in any kind of pseudo courtesy, at the moment the mag is 1/2way between a wargame magazine and a tank mag. It's full of adverts for wargames and toy collectables.
On this forum every day historical figurines are released and reviewed ban eager audience. In the waterloo edition on the review pages of new products.......... Nothing older than ww1. God help us ! Even the books. That were review were as much for gamers as anyone else.
If the magazine didn't have the usual high quality historex agents advertisement, the figure articles would have looked like an arrival from outer space.

I have totally lost any faith in the publisher and the editor of military modelling and they have a lot to do if they ever want the likes of us to but the magazine in quantity again.

It is my earnest hope that you and everyone else sell plenty of kits from this exposure Gra, and I hope I am wrong; but I fear the comments of the magg's own forum accurately reflect the current audience for this magazine and it will as far as figures are concerned die a slow and ignominous death.


How sad, this is the publication I started to buy instead of my boyhood comics and made the transition at the age of 12.
I have watched it bloom and blossom, now it withers on the poisoned vine of weak management.
The quality of other publications, across the modelling world far outsrips it in all terms. Paper, print and repro.

I used to despair silently with other modellers who felt the same and can do nothing about it.
Even if we buy two copies each next month will be all armour pilots and german tank crews again.
