I know where your coming from, and yes there are but a handful of figure contributors, but if we could attract some more, we could restore the balance.
I for one am not the fastest of painters, and dare I say not the fastest at writing and article. So the more figure contributors the better.

It actually upset me tremendously to post what I did.
I want this publication to be something I would read.. I occasionaly do buy a copy, but t's usually only to read your contribution or that of Adrian.
As sson as it's available I look through hoping to want it, but rarely see the value anymore. And so I then look at the next publishing date at the backand the trailer of coming up...guess what I usually see.
I could post an article on an overhead gantry on the m6 or on a traffic roundabout and be sure of an audience.
How about, when the advertisers go back in, when they go to CGS and do an feature, bonapartes's, sk minis, or imperial galllery and so onn, they would be welcome, but they have not got a journalist have they. That's when I would go back.
Where's the letters, where's the hints and tips and tricks, where's the uniform articles.
They aren't coming back.
I didn't leave the mag nor did others. It left us !
So, sadly my subscription is safer here.
There's a wealth of articles knowledge expertise wisdom and wit.
I'm happy with that. So I'm not going to post any more on this subject.
Take care and keep up the great work.
Paul

Hi Guys,

MM lost a lot of readers and I am sure subscriptions when figures got less and less .

All credit to Malcolm, Alex and other contributors , I havpe written articles and have thought about doing something but , I like to paint and like Malc not the quickest of article writers ( love the article by the way Malc)

It would be nice if the editor approached figure painters perhaps from this forum perhaps to gauge the reaction if nothing else .

I also really like the idea of having an actual company featured in an issue , it would be good for them and MM image.

What good are figure contributors if they are ignored ? why spend many hours taking pics, writing the article, etc... if it's never going to be used? Sorry, but as long as Mil Mod is run by this editor there won't be any articles coming from me.

Cheers,

Gino

I guess the issue for me (no pun) is that even if we got the balance back to 80 to 90 Percent figures as it was in it's hey day I still wouldn't buy it. I know I am in a minority but I can find far better uses for $15 or so a month. This site and other internet sources have made virtually all mags obsolete to me.

I used to buy MM for show reports, new product and the odd article. Even in it's prime it was rare for me to find more than one article per issue useful. When I was a teen or a young twenties modeller, it was my life's dream to get a photo of one of my projects into MM. Now I wouldn't care. Just gave 95% of my collection away, including all the Euro Specials.

The mag I do miss is Ron Sousa's Historical Miniature as it had useful how-to articles as well as the best elements of MM in its prime.

well I think it's impossible to create a magazine that everyone likes. I for one, don't think there's no more (or less) need for printed magazines as I like to have a paper copy of the things I like. It is true though that , even if there were more figure related articles, Mil Mod looks or feels somewhat outdated. Then again that's maybe the toll one pays for being 44 years old. I can know as that is also my age :p:ROFLMAO:

The "perfect" magazine for me would be an English issue of either Figurine, Euro Figuras or Soldatini in printed form of course. BTW, i have never ever bought an e-magazine in my life. Am i now a dinosaur or are there still others like me?

Enjoy your sunny sunday, with or without a good figure magazine to read,

Gino

No "e-books" for me, thanks, I prefer a paper copy that can be read at any time, without straining my poor old peepers on this 'Devil's Dustbin':D . I try to limit my viewing to a max of one hour a day.
Dear old Ken Jones used to actively solicit articles for MM from modellers way back in the '80's.....did a couple myself. But I don't think my work would pass muster now.

Cheers, Alan

I think its worth me passing some of your comments on to the Editor. It can't hurt.
In the meantime we'll keep plodding on trying to keep the figure articles coming.

Gino, I find it hard to believe that some articles are not being used, when they're crying out for them.
Especially if some of them were yours, you always wrote a cracking article to go along side a cracking figure.
Perhaps I've been fortunate, all mine have been published.
(Are you coming to Euro, it would be great to meet up again.)

Hi Malc,

To be honest, once Ken wasn't editor anymore I haven't send in any articles any more. The new editor never contacted me to let me know he still wanted articles, what about, etc... and at the same time i had a lot of health issues so I didn't wrote anything for Mil Mod anymore. To me it seems they are only "crying" for figures articles concering 20th century subjects and WWII especially, and if possible to keep it as simple as possible as figures are only there to dress up AFV's. Seen very little article aimed at the figure painter pur sang since the new editor. Luckly you and Adrian Hopwood provided some interesting articles from time to time, other wise there wasn't anything for us anymore. To be honest (again) once airplanes and boats started to appear in Mil Mod I knew it wouldn't be long before figure related articles were kicked out. Unfortunately it happened this way. Best thing would be to split up Mil Mod in 2 magazines : one for the tankies and one for figgies.
As for Euro, I don't think I will be able to visit ever again. Duer to health problems it has become way to echausting to make such a long trip. I can tell you that I'm the worst company during the Euro weekend as I still wished I was at the best modelling show I have ever attempted. anyway, should I ever be able again to come to Euro I will let you know for sure as I would LOVE to chat some more.

Take care,

Gino

Hi Gino

Sorry to hear your health has been playing up and preventing you from attending Euro. It would have been nice to catch up again.
I don't think there's a preference of period for figure articles, the most recent historical one I wrote was for a WW1 special.
Everything else I've written or will write will be on anything from Medieval up to the 19th century.

Musn't hijack this thread, but I'll share this one with you;...........

There once was a barmaid from Sale,
Who was tattooed with the prices of ale,
And on her behind,
For the sake of the blind,
Was tattooed the same, but in Braille.

Somewhat similar lateral thinking;)
