hi all
I fancy painting some 'Western' figures - Cowboys etc rather than native Americans - . I've been looking around but can't seem to find much. I would prefer 75mm or that sort of size although i can work on 54mm if needed. Also don't mind painting busts.

Any pointers or suggestions would be welcomed.

Regards

Tony Jewell

Thanks all for your suggestions, I've gone for a couple from Mercury models, I do like the Franklin True cowboy, but will need to save up for that one!
Thanks once again

Hi there, as you say you wouldn’t mind tackling a bust, I would comment as follows:
Legion offer a very bust entitled Old Cowboy reviewed on here a short while ago.
Dolman also do as great bust of Mac Coy (of comic book fame) which would with a little work would paint up as a non cavalry bust.
Andrea do a mountain man, John Wayne in cavalry uniform (lose the epaulettes and paint as any western figure) and Custer in their bust range (and some other western figures including High Noon and Winchester 73 in their other scales).
Glory Boys do a very nice 1/6 th scale bust of a cavalry trooper (the sculpting and casting of the pistol is great!) which need only be painted with a different colour shirt.
Personally not very keen on the two western busts produced by Pegaso or Youngs, but while they may not be to too my taste they too with a little effort could be made to work.
And finally, I cannot resist the chance to mention that I am selling a 1/6th scale bust of Wyatt Earp sculpted by Mike Goode on eBay.
I can’t see it mentioned above but Altores promoted on PF a little while ago, a great scene of a bar room brawl with one of the figures based on Charlie Prince from 3:10 to Yuma
Verlinden used to produce three western figures in 120mm and these can be picked on eBay etc from time to time (their High Noon figure wasn’t too bad but the best if the three was called A Game Gone Wrong ..or something similar).
Hope all of this helps
Good luck with the hunt.

Tony,
There are of course two more 120mm figures really worthy of mention that I left out last time around (my bad ! ……as the youth of today might say!):
Pilipili did a a great a Texas Cowboy in their Western range. Now oop but does crop up from time to time
And how could I forget that Mitches Military Minatures previewed here on PF a short while ago a great figure of a cowboy wearing a slicker and carrying a saddle and winchester.
Like you Tony I’m a western fan and it’s great to see figures other than sheriffs, marshalls or gun slingers.
More food for thought……
Nigel

I’m currently working on a bust of Gus Macrae from Lonesome Dove.
Its a extended bust made by Glory Boys some time ago.
will feature an arrow in the thigh as from the TV series and have him holding his Colt Walker.
PS don’t worry about the nailpolish….all good cowboys wear nailpolish!

Hi Tony.
If you have a look at our Forthcoming Releases, there are a few Western figures coming in from Mercury Models and Altores Studio. There might be a bit of a wait as shipments from Russia are taking quite long to get here (3-4 weeks):
(1) Forthcoming Releases – El Greco Miniatures Ltd.
Both these manufacturers have quite a few figures in their ranges in 54mm and 75mm scales.
Thanks for looking,
Matt
