Honestly guys, I recently found myself recommending the use of a wet palette to a gorgeous young lady in the local Hobbycraft shop:angelic::angelic:. Between thinking "Wow, what a stunner!!!!!!!" and explaining how to use a wet palette, I thought to myself, if I ever change from oils to acrylics, I must give one of these a go......
A disgraceful old age is approaching fast:whistle::woot:.

Gary mate, dont need to explain! ;) was she an oils girl or acrylics is all we want to know!
as for the drooling ! well your of that age ( sorry mate!):D
:p(y).
Classically gorgeous in that Nigella Lawson sort of way, about 6ft tall with long auburn hair, she said she was an oils girl but she thought she might be on the change:happy::whistle:,
and then I woke up:cry::cry:. That's my story and I'm sticking to it!!!!:angelic:

The only problem I have had recently with making a wet palette for myself is in getting the right sort of paper for the top layer.
You tube videos show the use of baking papers or parchment.
In the uk I find it difficult to source permeable paper on a roll so readily.
I ended up going to the art shop and buying the rowney papers.
They are not going to last for ever, so, for future use,
(although other supermarkets are available),
where do you buy yours please guys

Paul, I had the very same problem!....but please don't make the same mistake as I did.
Be quite clear what it is you require when asking about a wet palate, and for heavens sake be very aware of the time of day and your surroundings when asking........otherwise I've found there can be some confusion.

I find a wink and a nod at the supermarket gets me the right kind of........permeable parchment...

Right : so; a wink and a nod; permeable parchment squire, gotcha cheers.
So will the same technique work when I ask the girl "what dernier rating of black stockings
best resemble 1/32nd scale chain mail?".
It's just a thought I'm having for a future project!
Shouldn't cause any problem at the cash desk right?

Only if you're in the butchers should it cause any concern Paul

Some very useful tips are here. Thanks for sharing everyone and i would love to try this wet palette technique. I think it is more useful for beginners who have to face problems with acrylics due to its fast drying features.

Finally tried it today. Because my wife had baked cookies for Christmas we'd ran out of baking paper, but after a new round of grocery shopping the palette was ready within 5 minutes and it works. I used the lid of a plastic container, kitchen towel and the baking paper, which seems to be of the right type.

Great for keeping lots of small drops fresh for a long period.

Cheers,
Adrian

It's great isn't it?

I was able to go just one step further.

I saw and bought a set of three slim profile snaptight lunchboxes,

I now have the medium one for my work bench,

The smallest one for use at model shows,
and the large one for a lunchbox !

Well, if i can get a beer in there,
I will use it for lunch!

Paul

Guys,

When you have finished for the latest session keep it covered in the fridge and it will be ready for the next time

Well I did that and the beer went flat,
so I just finish the bottle now.
