Hi everyone, I've made a small figurine that measures roughly 34mm tall and i've made a basic 1 piece mold of this figurine using a putty. The mold has a cut down the centre so I can easily remove the figurine and both feet have open ends which allows me to insert some kind of rod or similar into.
I want to have my figure stand on a plaster base. I can glue his feet down but it won't hold well enough on plaster so looking for alternatives to give a relatively strong permenant hold. The most suitable alternative i've thought of is to place some kind of wooden rod or metal rod say 2mm diameter (3cm length) through each of the open end feet of the mold. The figurine is made using milliput and once dry I could then seal these rod parts into the plaster base when I come to make it, rather than glue the figure down.
My issue is finding some kind of strong rod that I can easily cut down with pliers but is also strong enough not to bend or break under pressure once cut down and applied to the figure and plaster. Would anyone know what kind of rods could be used and where to buy them in the UK. Obviously I would need to cut anything down to size and I'm limited with materials due to lockdown as working at home for the time being. I only have a craft knife and various cutting pliers so anything that might require the use of a saw or machinery would not be possible at this time.
