Man,...you guys got a way of turning a simple question into a full blown joke LOL..........
Ron,....your pics are great and your are right that the piece that you've shown is spot on for "that" particular piece......But it depends on the piece whether it be a bust or full figure whatever scale.
For example I personaly like what Carl Reid has done with the busts he has done for "Model Cellar"regarding the base or plinth;I may not like all of it and for the most part I do some reworking as far as height and other things.
It's all a question of balance and taste and materials and equipment available to each individual.
Just thought I'd add another penny after reading that recast horseshit is "STILL" goin on.:bored::grumpy::arghh:............Regards to all.........Wayne

You are right it is horses for courses :) Carls stuff is more the half figure and would not really benefit from a 6mm tube ,
the plinth he supplies works just fine .
I was really referring to the kinda standard Youngs and the like sort of thing , but height from the wood plinth is quite crucial ; to high or to low spoils the effect , another point is too large or small .
Lots of variables here ; european modellers tend to go for a smaller base than the Brits for busts , not sure how it is in the USA .
One of the main points I was making is the moving forward off centre on a typical angled plinth , if you go dead centre front to back then the bust sits to high and looks perched on the piece , typical angle that works best is about 22 deg .
These days I put my busts on a flat top no more than 50mm square , that way when I make the base it is suitable for single figures up to 75mm also ; but as you say no hard and fast rules .

PS the re-caster thing is getting a tired :D

I like to keep covered up Del.
