What is your biggest weakness?

Weaknesses?

For starters...

Painting: Highlights/shadows - Always too much deliniation but not enoough contrast (ie. more subtle blending and deeper hi's/lows). Plus need a better eye at WHERE to apply hilights and shadows appropriately.

Sculpting: Proportion/anatomy and smoothing - I'd kill to sit down and watch Gary some time!

Overall, I'm just not very good! But hey, at least I'm LEANING in the right direction! :lol:

My biggest weakness is reaching a point in my work where some switch goes off and propels me to finish my current piece as fast as possible despite the fact that there is much fine detailing to be done. I then end up rushing things and spoiling a lot of fine work by hasty painting decisions. However, I am learning to recognize these impulses when they show up and to cut myself off from a piece before I ruin it. I think this weakness is a crossover from my insane deadline days as an advertising art director when there was no time to do anything creative and craftsmanship was a "lucky mistake"

Outside of being insufferably lazy my greatest weakness is when I actually get something right and can't for the life of me remember how I did it.
I never make notes ( against my grain to even think about it ).
And I have little love for prepping a figure as well.

In painting: I'm always afraid that I will go over the top, so my overhead lighting scheme never gives the result I'm looking for. I also feel my highlights/shadows are never blended smoothly enough.

Sculpting: about everything. I will post some pics of a figure I'm trying to give new arms. It will be a good laugh, you are all warned.

General: Cleaning up figures. This is the only part I don't like about figures, and should it be possible to pay a couple of Euro's more to get cleaned up and assembled figures I'm sure I would do it.

I now am wondering what remains to be called good ;) Maybe my bases, but those I just have to buy :lol:

I have the opposite problem (another weakness). I get to that point and I tend to rush it, wanting to see the finished fruit of my labors and almost always regret doing that because in my haste something tragic is bound to happen.

My biggest weakness is keeping the overall vision in mind. I tend to get so fixated on the details, that I lose sight of how they contribute to the overall effect. Also, I'd like to coordinate the hue of my colors more so that the figure looks more unified.

Sculpting
Hands, fingers especially.

Feet and footwear in general.

On heads, the thing I've worked most on: bloody ears! A little asymmetry is okay but working in miniature you have to keep it to a minimum. Getting the difficult one (the head's right ear for a right-hander like I) to match the easy one takes effort. I also have a tendency I have to fight constantly to make ears a little too large and a little low on the head, not sure why... regrettably I tend to notice this after the putty has set :(

Painting
Being satisfied with less contrast, not following the trend of the last decade or so for too much, especially on busts.

Trying to ignore esoteric questions of colour theory and just get a bloody colour mixed!

Painting fine detail as sharply as I'd like (I need an Optivisor).

For me, The weaknesses are eyes and highlighting/shading. I feel fairly comfortable with my conversion sculpting skills and detailing skills, but the painting skills still cause me grief :( .

Like everyone else, shadows and highlights are a bear for me. I don't do much in white, but I have a bitch with khaki for some reason. US Paras in WW2 and that damn Parsons jacket are tough for me to tackle, but I don't have too much of a problem with SS camo.
 
My Lack of Patience is my biggest Weakness, plus the major problems like painting faces, Whites and Blacks, details, you name it I have it¡ :(

With all this problems, I'm still love to paint¡¡¡¡¡

Painting weaknesses:

Eyes - especially the damned right one!
Black and other dark colors
Getting enough contrast in my highlights and shadows
Metallics
Gold/silver lace

Sculpting:
The head and face
Body movement


Both:
Keeping some momentum going on a project and not losing interest or getting scared that the next thing I do on a figure will be the thing that completely screws it up.

Here are my weaknesses:

Assembly of the figure. Especially sub assembly before painting. For some obscur reason, I always add one part too many which leads to difficulty in painting. Furthermore, I regularly notice seam lines only when painting has started :angry:

Painting: Well , faces and eyes are by all means my nemesis. Shading and highlighting of skin, as a whole, is not one of my "fortes". Guess I need more practice :(

Bases: Though I've improved my techniques with bases, I always seem to lack the final impulse. By this I mean that when all is done, the groundwork always seems to lack some final detail, though I'm generaly incapable of imagining which detail it might be.

Has a whole, figure modelling is a satisfying hobby for me, but not one which I'm very good at, IMHO ;)
