I always wanted to paint Blas de Lezo y Olavarrieta (3 February 1689 – 7 September 1741), also known as "Patapalo" (Pegleg), and later as "Mediohombre" (Half-man) for the many wounds suffered in his long military life, was a Spanish admiral, and one of the greatest strategists and commanders in the history of the Spanish Navy. He is best known for participating in the defence of Cartagena in 1741.

Since I was child I admired this man, he never loosed a combat in the sea. There was a portrait in the museum house of Antonio de Oquendo, close to my house, in my neighborhood. Today is culture center. This one show here is in the Naval Museum of Madrid.

Like the idea of the 93rd Highlander from the Indian Mutiny but I've thought for a long while that if I had the skill I'd do this guy, Lt Col Colin Cambell Mitchell aka "Mad Mitch" I can heartily recommend the book as well.

If they do a bust that looks like John Wayne buy it before the company gets a cease and desist. My understanding is the Wayne estate is just as aggrresive to squash such things. George Lucas on the other hand would probably do enough to make a company go under. Not trying to be a killjoy it's just the way things are.

I don't know if Edward "Mick" Mannock has ever been done in the past; but I've always thought that this pic would make for a good "on campaign" look for a bust of him with full arms and his torso going down to about the top of the bottom pockets on the flight coat.

Or even better-- a full figure in 120mm ;)

Steve ,
Thanks for the idea, WW1 is a mass of ideas and possibilities, Mannock has been done and released by Hawk Miniatures , sculpted by Carl Reid , box art by Paul Blaber .

Gary ,
You raise a good possibility and highligts how careful manufacturers have to be .

Thanks guys

Nap

"Lt Col Mad Mitch"' a legend !!! not in parade uniform tho - campaign dress would be much better - but love the idea almost as much as the 93rd Indian mutiny action half figure, in fact Scottish and British martial history is so rich and not seen enough or how about the middle guy from the Commando monument at achnacarry - truely great bust idea !!!

Or the lead guy from the Commando monument at achnacarry as seen below
