Whats The Best Options For Painting Stockings

Hi guys

As anyone got any tips on painting stockings

I have just started on of the Andrea Pin up kits and I am looking for options on painting sheer stockings.

I did search the forum but most of the recommended links are now either dead or the techniques shown are not for sheer stockings.

Anyone got any more modern tips, would the Vallejo Black Glaze work.

Paul,

If you have an airbrush, I suggest you try using it to create the stockings. Keep your paint very thin and build up the layers carefully.

If you use the Black Glaze from Valejo, add Matt Varnish or Matt Medium to stop it from going glossy.

I ended more or less following the method shown in the Andrea PDF listed above. Which was paint the leg in flesh tone, apply highlights and shadows, I used the Andrea flesh set for this. I them mixed a thin coat of Tamiya XF-1 flat black and gave a light coat so that the shading was still visible, I them masked of the Welt and sprayed that a lot darker, the mask was moved down and another dark trasparent layer was added to give the two tone welt (stocking top) effect. I then gave it an all over light coat of Tamiya Smoke to unify all the tones.

I was quite pleased with this first attempt as well.

Heading in the right direction!!

Search for "mirei-san' it's a project I started some time back, stockings were a big part of the figure.

So far, you are applying the right techniques.

Dark where the material is near a curve (ie instep, back of knee, ankle) and lighter where stretched by the muscles (thighs, calves, top arch of the foot)

Good work, although perhaps a shade too dark - the darker it is, the thicker the stocking.

Good work though, looking forward to the rest of the figure!
