Hi guys,

I was wondering which show would be a good show to go as a first timer? I've only been to some IPMS regionals and would rather attend a figure only show and see the great stuff that you guys build. My funds and time is limited, so I really can only go to probably 1 show this year. My sister lives in Tulsa, so I thought about going to that one, but what do you guys think. My least busiest time would be during the Winter. Thanks for any input.

Tulsa is a great first show to go to. It is small enough not to be intimidating but large enough to see some really great work. The hospitality suite is notorious for having a good time and all of the people who put the show together are extremely friendly.

Brad,

I'm not sure where in Colorado you live, but there are a handful of talented figure artists in the Colorado Springs area. Ken Sullivan, Len Johnson are a couple I've met. Some of these guys make it to the Tulsa show every once in a while.

I belong to the club in Tulsa, and can only echo sentiments already posted. Tulsa is the first figure show I ever attended. It is a very good venue for a first timer. As Bob has already attested it is small enough not to be overwhelming, but large enough to attract some top artists. Fletcher Clement, Doug Cohen, Chris Mrosko, and Bill Chilstrom are the names you may recognize among those whose are masters there. Tulsa is also home to The Hussar, a store with figure modelling as it's main theme. Mike has a terrific selection of books, paints, and kit.

Brad,
I agree that the Tulsa show is a good "first show" for anybody. But to be perfectly honest, any of the historical miniature shows are great for a first-timer. Some shows are rather large - Chicago and MFCA come to mind - but this shouldn't be "intimidating" whatsoever. It's all about getting out there, talking to people, asking questions, and having a good time - all regardless of the size of the show.

Good point John. I agree, plus introducing yourself around can lead to some life long friendships.
