All members: come on, and say it out loud here :

of which famous historical person would you like to see a figure or a bust ?

I will start with my personal choice :

After reading Barbara Tuchman's "The Guns of August" about the fateful year 1914, my own personal choice is ...

King Albert I of the Belgians ! :)

reason : simply because he was a head of state who truly achieved greatness in his life and became a living legend.

and preferably a figure or a bust in his khaki uniform and helmet of course !

USMC Sgt Major Dan Daly

Yes, I know he's already been done and it's a fine bust, great portraiture, but my idea is for a figure of the Sgt. Major rising up from cover, in battle dress, and yelling his famous rallying cry.

Sergeant Major Daniel Joseph "Dan" Daly (November 11, 1873 – April 27, 1937) was a United States Marine and one of only nineteen men (including seven Marines) to have received the Medal of Honor twice. of the Marines who are double recipients, only Daly and Major General Smedley Butler received their Medals of Honor for two, separate actions.

Dan Daly is well remembered for his famous cry during the Battle of Belleau Wood, when, besieged, outnumbered, outgunned, and pinned down, he led his men in attack, shouting, "Come on, you SOBs, do you want to live forever?"

and yeah...SRV and King Albert would both be fun too. :)

All the best,
Dan

This is a hard one. Should it be Ensign Thomas (16 years old!) of the Buffs, or Lieutenant Latham of the 3rd Regiment of Foot? Perhaps we could setup both in a mini diorama.
At Albuhera, the Buffs, probably too far ahead of the brigade for their own good, were attacked from the rear by two regiments of enemy cavalry during a heavy storm and the regiment lost 643 of its 728 officers and men in minutes. Ensign Thomas chose death rather than yielding up the colour, and when he dropped it as he died, Lt. Latham, himself wounded close to death (he lost an arm), wrapped it inside his tunic where it was recovered after the battle. Since you are going to make two figures, I'll settle for 90mm. Thank you! :D

Ed was an iconoclast before i knew what that was. No wonder I dug him.

All that Army death and destruction stuff is kinda creepy....

Pinned above my workbench is a scribbled list of historical people who I think are deserving of a place in this little hobby. I've already made a bust of Gallileo and maybe one day I'll tick another one off of the list.

Not exactly a 'hero' of mine but Nikola Tesla is on that list. What a character!

Hi Mike,
It's said that there's a fine line between genius and lunacy. Tesla walked through his life with one foot either side of that line! Gotta love the bloke.

Archibald Henderson, first Commandant of the USMC. Henderson left a note on his office door when he went off to Florida: "Gone to fight the Seminoles". The character of the Corps has reflected what made Henderson tick ever since.
