Hi fellow Planateers.

As promised here's the latest (completely without a Red jacket)

It's the Andrea 54mm figure of the sheriff from the old cowboy movie 'High Noon'. Not sure when this was produced originally but mine was a little worn at the edges so needed a little bit of extra effort at the clean-up stage.
I discarded the original cast metal fence that came with the kit and made a new one up that was a bit more hefty. I also replaced the watch chain with something from fuse wire. I went through my usual repaint the eyes and face three times before I was happy.

My original intention was to go for a monochrome effect on the street side with a white picket fence sheltering some bright flowers symbolically echoing the films theme. (For those that haven't seen it the sheriff is looking for help from the local citizens prior to the arrival of the man he put in jail who's on his way back to the town to kill him)
That idea fell by the wayside because the white picket looked too artificial so then various buttons were 'brassed' and the gold watch chain was added. In the film he's wearing striped trousers too, but they looked too much so I repainted and left it with the waistcoat being striped . . .

By the way this is a 'big' 54mm figure (Compared to my recent Chota Sahib ones it's a real giant)

I missed this film in my youth, and only stumbled on it about 10 years ago - well worth a watch if you get a chance (Easy to see where Coop got his nickname Paul)

Nice work. The only thing I'm not so keen on is the fence being at an angle. It looks a bit odd to me. Just my opinion. Great work on the figure and adding the watchchain really works. I love these Andrea western series, I've done quite a few of them but not this one. Something I will have to rectify.

I hear what you're saying about the fence; perhaps looks odder in the pictures because I've made it slightly longer so it extends over the edges of the base slightly. Generally speaking I'll avoid running things parallel to the base edges; sometimes it works, other times . . .

I know what you mean Paul. Sometimes photos do tend to distort the scene and create an unwanted illusion. I'm not criticising the fence, in fact I'm totally with you about not running parallel. Its just that I think the bottom of the fence posts not sitting on anything looks a bit odd. Could the fence be brought more towards the centre of the base in a diagonal way so all the posts sit on solid ground? Or maybe some more grass at the ends to disguise the bottoms of the posts. Just an idea. Its still a cracking little piece and really well painted.

Aha I see what you mean John. It's the gap between the pailings and the ground
Should be able to crack the joint where the post is in the ground and reduce its height a bit so they end up a bit nearer to the ground - sorted. (And if not a bit of grass, as you suggest should help)

ps - appreciate the input; best way to get better is to put these things out there in front of your peers and see what kind of reaction they prompt.

You got me Mick - I always paint my figures from the skin out and I did add some red long-johns; if you look really closely you might be able to see them
