Hi fellow modellers,

In this world of Resin many subjects have been covered , some inspired by books both Fiction and Fantasy .

One of the best stories that I liked when growing up was Alice in Wonderland written by of course Lewis Carroll .
Since then it has been made into a great film in 2010 by Tim Burton 000000000.jpg with Johnny Depp and Helen Bonham Carter starring as the Mad Hatter and the Queen with all the characters in it including:
Alice 000.jpg
The Mad Hatter 00.jpg
Queen of Hearts 0.jpg
Cheshire Cat0000.jpg
and the White Rabbit 00000.jpg

..... all involved in of course the famous scene of the Tea Party .

are a company with over 20 years experience in the hobby and trade so they know what we want as customers , recent releases have included some rather fine busts including a great pairing called Hunger and Lust.

It was with a bit of excitement that I wrestled a package from our postman recently and opened it to reveal the latest release or that should be releases really as I had been sent a set of 5 busts under the heading of Wonderland .

The box has a slip over surround in good quality card , the box itself is in the same material. with a sectioned off piece of foam in 5 areas all protecting each individual piece of resin, as further protection there was also a strip of foam along the top.

Inside also we have 5 square shaped cards each one depicting one of the characters from Alice in Wonderland

In this part we will look at 3 of them ...Alice , The White Rabbit and the Queen of Hearts

Prep....

Alice...fine casting line from back of base
White Rabbit... As above and on the neck
Queen of Hearts...As with Alice
Cheshire Cat... As Alice
Mad Hatter..As Alice

So there you have the work needed ...barely worth mentioning its so little and I only saw the lines through my optivisor!!!

Casting on all is excellent , all details are very sharp indeed , having Roberto doing the sculpting has worked really well he is skilled at this and lets his mind go wild and boy these are wild and crazy.

All pieces are between 40-50mm tall including the base

All pieces are crazy versions of the subjects , all are real fun , some a bit scary as well !!!

Lets look at the resin....

Alice

Alice is not the cutie we see in the film , but there's some great sculpting here , mouth wide open showing the tongue and shouting the words " I don't want to be among mad people" and who can blame her!!! . The nose is upturned slightly , nostrils open , good eye details and particularly the hair is texture is first class , on top we have a bow ...well a lady has to look her best eh!!
No 2 ...... The White Rabbit

This is a really mad rabbit and not the one Lewis Carroll had in mind!!!.... his head looks a bit human shaped at the back and is covered by a leather mask ( a la Silence of the Lambs ) complete with some wonderful ears , large and nicely shaped , restraining his teeth or not as in this case , we have them poking out the mask at the bottom ...sharp and lethal .
He wears a high collar with a neck scarf/tie , all are really good , apart from the face my favourite bit is the pocket watch sitting proud of the actual pocket, we have the hands on it as well .
This Rabbit says " I have nothing but time"
Now to one of my favourite .......Queen of Hearts

Now to the final 2 pieces

Firstly .......

Cheshire Cat
Broken Toad Mad 025.jpg
Broken Toad Mad 029.jpgBroken Toad Mad 028.jpgBroken Toad Mad 027.jpgBroken Toad Mad 026.jpg
This cat is certainly not all there and is the scariest of all the pieces IMO , but he has a charm that is as wide as his smile , bareheaded with scars over his head and face , sharp teeth , his mouth extended like the Joker , grinning dangerously , pointed cat like ears with eyes that are just as scary as his smile , teeth , all pointed are in his mouth ..ready for..who knows!!!....but fear not he has been restrained by a straight jacket which is held on by 2 large and strong ( thankfully) straps ....
This Cheshire Cat is grinning but as he rightly says " I'm not all there, myself" ........too right there pussy !!!
Now to another favourite of mine
The Mad Hatter
Broken Toad Mad 020.jpg
Broken Toad Mad 024.jpgBroken Toad Mad 023.jpgBroken Toad Mad 022.jpgBroken Toad Mad 021.jpg
This is a painters delight , wonderful facial features , chin forward , eyebrows riased , , mouth slightly but sinisterly open , his long hair hanging over the turned up collar, a massive bow tie , really well done at the front , the crowning glory is of course the top hat , how Roberto got so much detail he amazes me the band around has notes poking out everywhere , with the top having a particularly battered look as does the brim of the hat ...I love it !!
In his words ..." We all go a little mad , sometimes"
Final Thoughts
This is without doubt a lot of fun and extremely well thought out , casting is great with fine sculpting work from Roberto and equally fine presentation from Broken Toad.
The scale is small but with an amazing amount of detail showing in all pieces , not sen a painted set yet but they will look great all together ..perhaps mounted on a Queen of Heart playing card or maybe a book.
Whatever you choose to do you will have lots of fun at the bench with these .
Why not go a little mad yourself ...I did !!!
