Much hand-wringing has been indulged in over the years by beardy sandal-wearers and hysterical, leather-elbowed CND types about the "glorification of war" in popular culture, but when you watch any of the shows being discussed in this thread, I reckon you have to think "yeah - maybe sometimes they have a point".

Steve, as of today we could say the same about Jeremy Corbyn. ...:eek::LOL: (But that's political).

However, you may have a point. As kid's we grew up on the 'Glorification of war'. Everyone was immune from bullets etc!! right up until the 80's.

Saying that I remember some cheaply made films which where quite the opposite. I recall a film on the 'Vietnam War', who's central character was called , 'No hands Young'. ( I cannot remember the actual film title).. Yes I do! .. 'How sleep the Brave'. ( Did some searching on Vietnam/War films).;) .. A massive removal from the invincible 'Rat Patrol'.

Ironically it was shot in England, ?? (1981) watch some clips and spot the obvious difference.

Yes, yes it does. :sneaky:

Don't worry too much. I used to wear two army suits from about the age of 7/8 to 10. An olive green one piece which looked like a U.S. Tanker's uniform or a two piece cameo suit which looked like German SS Autumn camouflage pattern... I'm from a generation raised in the expectation that we'd have to fight Germany or the USSR one day.... that Cowboys were good and Indians were targets... that the French were there merely for bayonet practice...

Today I live a mile from the Swiss German border, speak German daily, work with a Russian and have a couple of good friends who are French, German, American and Canadian! I even have an English friend! How times change for the better in some ways - especially as they're all politically incorrect too!!!!

Mark, the trouble with the no politics rule is it's so hard to stick too, I suppose that's what makes it necessary. Having said that, please don't mention Jeremy Corbyn, I'm already feeling unwell and that could give me a real case of the *****!!!
Huw I don't know about the cowboys and indians, but I agree with the rest of it :LOL:................. Sorry:sorry::sorry::whistle:.

Huw! :D.

It could be worse! I was running around with 'British', 70's 'Camo', and a white tin-pot on my head with blue rims + handles ?? (A casserole pot) .. and a plastic gun which sounded very similar to an extremely long fart!.

At that time my enemy were those from 'Newcastle'. ... Happy days.

Now I'm very very worried - you thought you were a UN Peacekeeper...

I am! ... sort of!

New one on me that film Mark. Never heard of it before.

The Hue City scenes in "Full Metal Jacket" were also shot in England. London docklands before they were redeveloped. Kubrik had a load of palm trees flown in to make it look like south east Asia. Pulled it off as well, it was very well done.
