ww1 flight training

came across this picture when my old uncle had to move into a old folks home. all he could tell me its a picture of ww1 air gunner training.
Just thought some of you sculptors might find it an interesting idea for a vignete.not sure which nationality they are may be some one can let us know something about it.

That sure looks to be a Cossack's hat on the fellow to the rear to me. I'm no expert, but I would sure lean towards Russian.
