Meet my new project: Gefreiter Manfred Gerhard “Bunny” Wolfschlegelsteinhausenbergerdorff Sr.

Sadly for Gefreiter Manfred Gerhard Wolfschlegelsteinhausenbergerdorff Sr. a gefreiter is not an NCO and therefore he has no powers of authority in the Kaiser's army. He's simply a glorified private, much to his chagrin and that of his devoted son, Manfred Gerhard Wolfschlegelsteinhausenbergerdorff Jr., nicknamed “Bootsie” to distinguish him from his father, the aforementioned Gefreiter Manfred Gerhard “Bunny” Wolfschlegelsteinhausenbergerdorff Sr..

From Frank-Miniatures it is a 1:10 scale resin bust consisting of the bust, backpack, rifle, pipe, and pickelhaube spike (the pickel in pickelhaube) plus a
small strap, part of his backpack harness. The bust has lots of sharp detail and is cast well with only one small flow mark I've been able to discover. Parts are well designed to fit together easily. Hats off to Frank on a job well done.

I've discovered two color references for the bust, one in the traditional feldgrau uniform, the other a tan or light brown uniform color. I'll be using the feldgrau example as my reference.

"Feldgrau" is correct!

By the way, our friend is not a soldier of the "1st row", but belongs to the "Landsturm".

They wore field gray jackets - but sometimes the old "peace trousers".

And as for the pipe:

At Christmas 1914 the German Crown Prince "gave away" tens of thousands of these pipes with his picture to the soldiers in the field...:

Cheers

Thanks to all.

Nap, I'd love to see your painted version of the soldier bust if you still have him. I know I can go to school off of your experience, if you don't mind.

Martin, thanks for sharing the information. I have an assemblage (it's too small to be considered a collection) of WW1 artifacts, both German and Allied, but was unaware of the pipe. Now I'm going to have to find one to add to my assemblage!

God, I love this site. Such a wealth of information and with members who are willing to take the time to share it.

Rick

Hi Rick

Good refs from Martin ...sure the CP did smile !!

Painting it will be a little challenge but don't forget it's a " suggestion " of the picture

Go for it

Happy piping
