I just got this bust in on Thursday. This bust is just incredible. Here is my start on him, The helmet is built up with many different layers of paint to give it the texture of a real one I saw this weekend. Any tips or comments are greatly appreciated. My pics are crappy as usual.

thanks guys. the bust is made by Young miniatures. Here is the box art picture painted by sang eon-Lee.

for the helmet I am stippeling the paint on in a random pattern, once dry I do it again until it gets the thickness and texture i am looking for. I have a couple more passes to go with the light colors before it is done.

Great start Mike; this is a beautiful piece of work. When I looked at the helmet on the original piece I was thinking on how it was painted. Looking forward to seeing progress on this.

Cheers

Off to a great start Mike.

How come you didn't post this in your vbench so members would be able to find it 6 months or a year from now when they might be painting their copy?

Tommi can move this to your vbench.....your choice.

I'm gonna post it on the vbench when he is done. I like to keep my vbench clean with just finished pieces. Does that make sense?

Hi Mike the painting machine .. for me Guy has reason ..by the way .. very fine the face you add character , the helmet is very beautiful for my liking i would paint it as you are doing .

cheers

That's a spooky looking guy. I have just finished watching a WW1 documentary series. I forgot how bad that war really was... like all wars. Great start on the bust.

Paul - I completely agree with you. Dejected, exhausted and way too many demons. If you liked that, how about this guy? For whatever reason, this guy makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up. Somebody who is really gifted with likenesses (not me!!!) should make a bust of this 10th Regiment Bavarian machinegunner from about 1917. The badges on his feldmutz are probably Austrian. The K is certainly Austrian.

All the best,
Dan

After watching that series (something like 15 total episodes) it dawned on me how truly wasteful it was... He kind of looks like a serial murderer...

In a sense he is a serial murderer. He wakes up and kills and goes to bed after he has killed again. It was a generation that lost their souls, war in general is a nasty but necessary thing WWI was one of those more nasty situations. If mustard gas is in the choice of weapons count me out, I would rather go back to hand to hand and lets see who the bad ssa is.
