Lost in post ...LOL ...think I managed to break them before send ...or maybe your carpet monster ate them ...lol

Matters not, I quite like him without them and the strap, less to worry about ;)

Made up another, slightly lighter, paint mix using Yellow Ochre, Burnt Sienna and a touch of medium green. This lighter colour will make the shadows pop more and an easy to adjust for highlights.

Would the shirt be a lighter colour of the tunic or is it very different? Some pics it looks greyer in tone, some greener.

A bit of progress today, still a lot to do. Head is being done in oils, the torso and hat in artists acrylic.

Looking good so far Graham. Reference shirts and ties the officer class would have bought their own from their military tailor, therefore the colours would have been very varied within the "khaki" remit. Some were quite a greenish olive, others very dark. I think as Nap suggests, as long as tie and shirt contrast it will look fine. A common affectation was to wear a gold pin through the shirt collar wings behind the tie. You sometimes see that with WW2 officers too. Re medals, he would only need the ribbon bars, not the full monte hanging stuff. You could vary the shade of the cap from that of the tunic - not a lot, but the cap would probably have been made by a specialist hatter and they may not have necessarily had supplies of the same material the tailors did for the tunic. Hope that makes sense:D

Thanks Phil, it does indeed make sense and thank you so much for the ideas and input

Calling this one just about done.

added the ribbon for the MC and near the end realised he had no epaulette buttons so made them from round plastic heated to mushroom ends. Torso and hat painted in artist acrylics with the face done using oils. Love the blending possibilities with oil but hate the drying time so I really need to master acrylic blending. Just need to matt down the uniform but my Matt varnish has disappeared so I need to order some.

Another fun piece to do to get me back into figure painting, just need to work on refining the quality and up my game.

Thanks for the advice and suggestions on this project, it was all welcome and appreciated.

edit: head looks slanting in last shot, it’s not glued in yet.......

Nice slant on the head ...lol

Looking good ...ribbon as well , good spot ref buttons

Something you might like to try is W&N blending medium to help with acrylics

I like to line in seams and highlight ...and use a thin line around ribbons in a darker uniform colour ....you might like to try that on the next

What's next ...the War horse bust

Thanks for sharing

Happy benchtime

Many thanks for all your suggestions and support. So much to learn lol.

Not ready to try the warhorse busts yet, not until I improve on the faces.

My next project is a return to one I have done before as a bust but this time with a twist..... yes, that strange thing known as a bust with legs
