As mentioned in another thread I've got the Series 77 Walter Plank on the go I've decided to give him a leather coat and that he's seen better days cash wise. The Navy having a crack down possibly or an unexpected tax demand! I've tried out some G.W. paint that's designed to "crack" it's really for ground work I think but I've used it on the coat to simulate cracked aged leather. I've used Grant's (Gellso) method for the leather effect as seen here http://www.planetfigure.com/threads/leather-boots-sbs-any-leather.58613/ See what you think folks, as ever all comments welcome

Hello Steve, The cracks are a nice effect, did you use the G.W. paint on a practice piece, to see if it has any adverse effects on the paint you will use for the leather??? If not, it will definitely add to the appearance of this scruffy old sea dog. Best of luck the rest of the way. Following. Regards, SG:)(y)(y)

I've seen this being used for groundwork. That is a great idea for cracked leather and you seem to have pulled it off can't wait to see it painted(y)

Thanks folks it's just a plain acrylic which can be mixed with other paints, you have to slap it on really thickly but it levels itself out as it cracks, a bit of trial and error on some test pieces to get that thickness right and away you go I'll run a pin wash of some buff colour into the cracks once I've finished layering the coat to make the cracks really pop out

That's the stuff Geoff, Cheers Keith it is a nice figure casts a little lacking in places ( beard hair etc) due to it's age but it's still a nice bit of work

Yeah it should work for all sorts from paint flaking to leather as well as you know... what it's intended for ground work
