Steve - Thanks. I was going to say that I struggle with woodgrain and here comes Fran with a useful guide on how to do it the right way. I seem to remember that the stock was engraved with a random texture, making anything too fancy a bit difficult (not that I would have attempted it).

Fran - Cheers.

Neil - Many thanks. Good to hear from you.

Terry - Thank you. Well, I can paint a face after my own fashion, but I often feel that there's something I don't get about the process - any decent results are lucky accidents. As for painting flesh in general, you should have seen the almighty struggle I've had today trying to paint the half-naked chest of a Greek hoplite - a nightmare!

Hi Steve. I have a tutorial on youtube about this. I recorded it while painting the same figure indeed (it's in spanish but you can see the process). With the permission of the staff...

Thanks for the video you posted, very interesting and very helpful.

Morning Peter

I remember this one, has it really been so long?

Another cracker and a nice change of pace for you too.

Looking forward to your brace of Galland's, hopefully the eyes have been upgraded or was it a head swop?

Have a good day with the paints

Regards

Steve H

Steve - I'n g;adI re-did the head on this one, as it was looking pretty flat. The Gallands have been binned I'm afraid - really terrible faces that resisted all attempts at normalisation. I'm working on El Greco's Laconian hoplite at the moment.

Chris - I wouldn't like to get complacent and a bit of harsh self judgement is necessary if you're going to try and improve. Glad you like this chap.
