Very nicely done. That turret provides some great modeling opportunities. Personally, just me, but I would like to see the two (turret and figure) in closer proximity to each other in the layout, but a minor fact of taste on my part. nicely painted.

wow, that is something, Young Min better watch out, we will come to expect something new and exciting every month.

Pushing the realm of reality on this set? Leather jacket with Italian Camouflage pants with a PPSH and a T-34/43 turret ? I would love to see photographic proof of this mixture on the eastern front. The figure looks great. Mrosko

Chris,
You are right. I think you never gonna find photographic proof of this outfit, because it wasn't there.
I think the painter good be do some more research for this awesome figure.
Nevertheless, the painting is perfect.

Why not?

Well, the uniform combo (leather jacket + Italian camo) is very possible.

1. the leather uniforms were issued to certain SS units from winter of
43-44 and re-issued in the following winter.

2. some SS units like 1SS, 2SS, 9SS, 10SS, 12SS 17SS saw action in France
where they were seen wearing many Italian camo uniforms.
Certain units from 1SS spent some time in Italy in 43, also. Many of the
uniforms made with Italian camo material were privately purchased,
and it is likely that these were kept by the owner afterwards.

3. Most, not all, of the SS units listed above got transfered to eastern front at
some point after Normandy battle. Some back and forth.

4. T-34/76 saw action until the end of the war. Some were photographed
even in Berlin if I'm not mistaken.

So it's quite posssible that some SS personels could have worn such
uniform combo at some point after Normandy.

Thanks. Also, looking at the way the turret is painted, its possible the intention was that the Tanker has stumbled across a relic from a battle many months earlier?

Either way, it looks really nice. Definitely on the list!

Well show me some proof on the combination, yes it is a possible, but again the Leather jacket it self is rather rare for tankers to be wearing, 1st and 12th SS ? Secondly you are defending your own companies product! I never said that is was a bad figure, I just said that is is unlikely. Thank you and try using a real name, I do!. And why sculpt a maybe figure when there are so many real poses that can be done. Then you dont have to defend your company and sculptors what if"s? thank you and have a very nice day.Chris Mrosko

Well, I see the this topic is starting to heat up!:)

Although I don't have any substantial evidence, I think that leather jacket / Italian camo trousers combination for SS panzertruppen on eastern front is quite plausible, because "Hitlerjugend" Panzerdivision saw action on both fronts. After the Battle of the Bulge, the HJ SS Panzer Division (together with the 1st SS Div. LASSH, as a part of I.SS-Panzerkorps) was sent to Hungary where it was supposed to assist in recapturing Budapest and the the Hungarian oilfields, and fought against Soviet army until May 8th 1945, when survivors of the 12th SS Panzer Division (about 10,000) surrendered to the American 65th Infantry Division, 7th Army, near Enns in Austria. According to that, there must have been even one person wearing that type of uniform

Even if someone still doesnt' like the "East front scenario", it could always be the "Austria 1945" or "Berlin 1945" or something like that.

I really like the figure (although a little bit pricey), but I would rather replace the PPSH-41 with a MP-40.

Best regards,

Nemanja

Hi Chris,

I can see where this is heading to and it sort of brings to mind an interesting philosophical question:

A man goes into the forest and chops a tree down. No one saw him chop the tree down. Did he chopped the tree down?

Anyway without digressing from this thread, that's one awesome figure from Young.

Hey Chris
T50 is me, Taesung. ;)

All I'm pointing out in my previous post was that
the uniform combo and the turret needs no further
historical research or requires any photographic
evidence. The 3 elements works together just fine.
1SS and 12SS had both leather uniforms and Italian
camo uniforms. And they saw combat against T34/76
after they were issued with those uniforms. I think
this senario is very solid and makes the combination
quite "likely". There are no photographic evidence for
every single miscellaneous thing happened in WW2, right?

Also, let's remember that the figure comes unpainted. :)

Hey Mr.T

All that I was trying to state was this fact, it would be more believable if the figure was holding a MP-40 than the PPSH, with the uniform that he is sporting, it is pushing the limits of possibilities. The figure looks fantastic I have darn near every Young miniature releases to date, and I will honestly say that they are one of the best figures lines on the market as well as your line.

Hey all.. just another ring into the fire..How about manufacturing these awesome 90mm pieces in 1/35th scale and the entire 1/35th scale line cast in 90 mm for even greater selection choice ?? Thoughts?

Thank you so much for all interest about my humble figure.
I will try to more more more study about historical research.
All your advices are very important to me.
Thanks.

Keep up the great work, also is the a hobby shop in Korea that we can purchase your figures? they are very expensive here in the States. Mrosko

Just an additional comment (about scale, not subject)

As an avid figure collector (and sometimes painter) I can only say that I wish this figure was in 120mm or 1/16th scale, so as to "fit in" with the rest of my collection. I have the Young Miniatures Roman busts, and hesitated buying those as everything else I have done is in 1/9 or 200mm or larger. My love of Roman subjects and the awesome sculpting convinced me to get them. However, this figure, as good as it is, won't make it to my collection because of the odd scale combined with the price. I hope that on down the line Young Miniatures might release some figures in 120mm, as their quality is unmatched.
Cheers
Jason

I'm a professional historian (and I strive for historical accuracy in my miniatures too), but this is getting too esoteric even for me. This kit isn't something I normally paint, both in scale and subject, but I wouldn't complain if this kit made it into my grey army.
