Often the trouble with box-art is the quality of the photography. I know a lot of painters rely on it but at best it is only a guide, at worst a distraction.

It's more about trying to emulate an impossible standard. You think you know how they achieved a particular effect, you think you know how to copy it, but yours just ends up a poor imitation - at least it does for me. Still, we carry on......

The blue looks nice and strong, not too washed out as in the box art.

Good choice.

The head set and chin strap look quite torturous and medieval.

Looks like a good day for the body today.

Much warmer too and a heatwave due by the weekend!

I agree that the headset must have been a bit of a pain to wear, though I suppose you would have needed those straps on a fast and bumpy boat. On to the torso today, mainly the coat I think, then the microphone for the final stage. Snow being washed away rapidly by heavy rain here, much warmer, though less bright.

I decided to crack on and gets this finished:



The base for the uniform was Vallejo dark Prussian blue, and for the jacket I used a khaki.

Another super finish, lovely contrast between the Blue and the Khaki and lovely blending too.

The "torture" devise strapped to his chest looks odd, like an IED!

But as you said, in a fast moving boat, its not going to get dropped and smashed.

Another bust next or perhaps a 1/16 figure?

Hi Steve - Glad you like our man and his cumbersome comms gear. Not sure what to do next - I'm waiting for several things in the incredibly delayed post (Covid and ice affecting the local delivery hubs) so may wait and see if anything turns up. Basking in the heat may be an option......
