Hi Marcus

What to say except thanks for sharing updates ..learnt something ref hand as well .......like the idea of the bandaged head .....will you add his battered helmet close to him ?

Mails coming along nicely as well how are you recreating the links ?

I know one thing when shows are back sometime you should demo your putty skill ...I would love to be in the front row

Thanks for updates look forward to more

Happy putty pushing

Definitively, this is the best work I've ever seen, for all, for the composition, for the conversion of the figures, for the sbs. You inspire me.
Is there anyway to archive this thread?

Agree there ...as for archiving ...the SBS will stay here unless it's deleted , just use the thread title to search if needed

You could always copy relevant piste onto a spread sheet and save a copy

Thank you mate, been working on the Signifier today. Almost finish modelling him, quite happy how he’s turned out so thanks for the push. :)

Getting close to finishing modelling the Signifier, thanks to Nap for the push and think he’s turned out okay. Doing all those dots for the chain Mail nearly sent me cross eyed but the effect was worth it.

Thanks mate, think the question is “How were the symbols (awards & decorations) attached to the pole?”

I used a disc cutter, using the centre point, drilled that through and there is a metal pin inserted and drilled into the pole, that and gluing secures into place.

hope that helps and answers the question?

Hi Marcus

I was thinking if perhaps they were secured with a band around pole at the back on the actual items ?

Just a thought

I see, to be honest I’m not sure. I’ve seen some examples of the Roman Standard (Signum) but according to history books no original examples exist. How we know what they look like are represented on some Roman coins and stone sculptures, so unsure how the awards were actually secured to the pole.

I would have thought lashing might make them slide, pinning makes them secure and that technology would have been available so seems the logical choice, but who knows. I bow to anyone’s superior knowledge on this one.

Hi Marcus

Catching up on this and what a delight to see , cracking putty results and now the painting starts ....liking the wounds ...severe but not overly done , shirked looks good as well

For me this has and continues to be one if the most enjoyable V Bench to follow .....show casing how to approach such a project ...great research as well

Happy benchtime
