Hi everybody

This is now on my bench a great little sculpt from Black Pyramid Gaming which I reviewed here on PF

http://www.planetfigure.com/threads/tommy-from-black-pyramid-gaming.81219/

Sculpted by Steve Leadley from this parish!

Here is his version unpainted

and his rather nicely painted version

Here are the parts

I have slightly changed the original by

Reworking the left hand to be more open ( nothing wrong with Steves ..I wanted to have a go!)

Added shirt cuffs

Added rank and a rough rider badge together with service stripes on other sleeve

Added a couple of medal ribbons ( oh yes!! ) to our Tommy's tunic these are the 2nd Afghan War and the Kandahar Star

image.jpeg

Will add a buckle to top of each pouch as in picture below !

image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg

The Indian will be a Lance Duffadar from the 3rd Bengal Cavalry using this reference from this book

Here is a couple of references I will use amongst many other!

Some details from the Almark book

The great plan ......to try and get this done for Bugle Call ...this year!

Stay tuned

Interesting additions, Nap! With the medal ribbons and the buckles on the pouches, this will put it slightly later than the 2nd Afghan War - closer to the 1890s..?(y)

Cheers Steve you are right of course ref the later style pouches buckles ......right then I need 2 medal ribbons suitable .....

Or out Tommy joined just before the 2nd Afghan War and is still serving some years later .

What are your thoughts on those black pouches ?

Appreciate any input ...

Off to finish basecoating!

Nap

Steve

I thnk that illustration is from a book in the series that did The Thin Red Line , think inputs also in the book called Kiplng soldiers as well

The Indian is from the book shown which is the reference I will use

Black leather webbing ..a option ..have you a colour illustration of the Rifle unit ?

Another thought what about a redcoated infantryman carrying the lance Duffadar in a Kharki

image.jpeg image.jpeg

Nap

Could be an option, Kev, but bear in mind the patch pockets.... Rifles have exactly the same pattern equipment, but in a polished black leather, with blackened (bronze) collar dogs, buttons and shoulder titles. You may have to change the belt buckle to a snake fasten, too!(y)

Hi Guys

Keith ..it is a nice piece and the fit is really clever , I am painting the Indian head and right arm separate its that good .

Steve .....of course the pockets woukd need to come off so it's the Kharki uniform !!!

Don't want to mck around at the moment with the belt ..need to sleep on it !

Like you 2 different Kharki uniform versions of it ...

Best th now have a good base colour

Cheers for the reply

Hi Guys

Couple of pics ...basecoated only

Indian Uniform...Life Colour US Brown

Tommy uniform...Citadel Steel Legion Drab

Waist sash/Badges ...Life Colour French Blue

Hair ..Life Colour Burnt Umber

Leather belts ...Citadel Mounfang Brown

Indian Flesh...Life Colour Japanese Medium Brown

Tommy Flesh ...Life Colour Sand Yellow

Still thinking about the pouches ...white leather or Rifle Regt black ......time for a coffee I think !!

Might add a bit of rank on Tommy ?

Update

Couple of pics with the stripes on , epaulettes badges are there and readable ..paint will bring them out more !

Snake buckle all done

Waiting for all to dry and then redo base coat etc ..then the painting begins with earnest ....(and if doesn't like it I will do it on my own ..lol )

Using this picture as reference ..Rifle Brigade .......skirmish to the front !

Would have opened up a pouch possibly but enough is enough !

Thanks for the response Kevin.
I thought this was a vert brave sculpt to cast in so many pieces and get the good effect of dead weight on the carrier.
I am sure you will have some fun on this beauty.
All the very best Mate,
Keith

Hi Keith

Thanks for comment , a difficult sculpt to pull off but I reckon Steve has done a good job of the dead weight look.

I am enjoying this ...it's biccy day at Jimbo's tomorrow ..so hope to get the main uniforms done

Here are a couple of quick iPad pics as he looks now all nicely neatly base painted

I will probably do the base in stone effect to show off what will be black leather webbing

Thanks for looking in

Nap

PS hope all is well and best wishes to you all

They are taking shape nicely Kevin.
Please give my regards to Jimbo at the biccy fest tomorrow.
As for us, all is well. We are now back at home and pleased to be back in the studio after 3 weeks away.
Speak soon Mate.

Update ...

After a hectic day biccy munching at Jimbos

Worked in the uniform using JS colours ..burnt umber , unbleached titanium , fawn ...still bits to do but close to the colour I was looking for .

image.jpeg

Also added a bit of red to the turban and what will be the edging on rank stripes

image.jpeg

Gentleman .....

Jimbo is a good mate and a sculptor...now as you know I reworked the hand so after letting him roll about in laughter for 10 minutes ..I went to make a coffee ( yes I know self service!) ...came back to this

image.jpeg image.jpeg

Rather detailed sculpting there eh!

Later on went to use the facilities ...and came back to this massacre !

image.jpeg

...the man has lots to answer to !
