Another period in history I don't know that much about apart from the basics of the northern states of America fighting southern states over slavery.
I saw this 200mm La Meridiana Miniatures bust on the El Greco website and liked it so this will be my start into that war, this one was on the Confederate (South) side.
Moulding is lovely and crisp with just the normal pouring block cleanup and minimal cleaning up of the seam at the rear of the body. Just two parts, body with head attached and then just a fairly thin double cord from the top rear of the head cover, what ever it might be called, to the tassel on the shoulder, this is quite brittle and requires careful cleaning up of a bit of flash.

All cleaned up, washed and primed.

So I'm away, eyes first in acrylics then the rest of the face in Artist's oils.

Looks a nice bust Geoff. I am quite liking some of the ACW stuff, quite a bit of variety.

I must admit it was the colours that attracted me to him but agree with you Graham it's not all blue or grey. I think it is FeR that do quite a few ACW busts which I have been looking at but some are 1/16th but I don't mind doing the smaller scale.

Beautiful work on an interesting unit. The standard issue uniform (particularly the vest) is the subject of great debate. It is pretty much accepted that the initial vest color was blue with red trombeaux. This likely was worn by the Tigers at 1st Manassas (Bull Run). Some have theorized that the vest faded over time to a brownish hue due to the poor quality of the dye, and others have opined that vests were reissued in a brownish color with the red trombeaux later in the War. If you want further research you might check out civilwartalk.com. A specific discussion of this matter can be found at https://civilwartalk.com/threads/wheat-louisiana-tigers-vest-and-pants-questions.127370/ . It's good that you're doing a bust so you don't have to deal with various accounts of the unit's trousers. Again, great work! Looking forward to the finished product.

Geoff, Company of Military Historians has a nice color plate of the Tigers. I don't access to the book, but maybe someone who has it will send you a copy. I find the uniform jacket still quite a source of controversy. I would imagine it could have been blue initially and faded to a brown shade....Look forward to seeing this one completed. It looks to be a well sculpted bust as well.

Many thanks Nap, I seem to have found quite an interesting bust as regards uniform colour going by comments from friends across the pond, so I shallhave to have a read up and think about how I can do a faded to brown blue jacket.
Still it's all fun this modelling lark.

Many thanks Guys for your info and links, I shall look at these tomorrow but my immediate thought is doing the jacket/vest a fading blue to brown but will have a read first.

Watch this space.
