I think I’m pretty much done, a little touching up and I’m there. I made a simple grassy base - the image he is based on is from an annual camp in North Yorkshire.

Thanks chaps, I’ve taken some decent shots and will post them in the completed forum soon.

I’ve learned lots from this project:
1. I think my mannequin is ok, it gave decent proportions for the figure and was easier than starting with wire I think.
2. Magic sculpt is ace but I really struggled to get a smooth finish in places. I think maybe I need to slow down when sculpting and give each part more time to dry to avoid finger prints and damage. I think I need better abrasives too.
3. I don’t like painting khaki, it’s really difficult to highlight even using dedicated paint sets.

Overall though I think I’ve got the sculpting bug and already have another project in mind. Thanks for the advice and support along the way.

Cracking job Stefan, each new figure is a learning curve s well as a challenge and is really worth the time you put in.

As you mentioned, yes let each bit dry before moving on, it does slow the process but save squishing what just took you ages to do. I read a tip on another forum from our own Paul Handley about smoothing out the Magicsculpt, he advocate a slight dab of olive oil. I can't attest to this as I've always used water but it sounds good and I'm going to try it, mind it'll need decreasing before painting.

Looking forward to your next project.

Cheers Simon

Hi Stefan

Good to see you’ve enjoyed the process and got the bug .....look forward to seeing what the next subject will be

I use Vaseline with magisculpt , you might try wearing lightweight medical gloves as well ref finger prints

Have fun
