Good system for the buttons, a great way to keep the size consistent which is hard when using rolled up putty. The holes can easily be remedied as you say with Magicsculpt. Got to say I'm rather enjoying this thread.

Cheers Simon

Taking a moment to check the pose, I’m happy with the position but need to thin the cuff on the right arm down. My review at this point would be that he looks ‘ok’, but I think there are issues with the proportion of the torso. I used my mannequin without the ‘stomach’ piece which I think led to the spine being too long. He doesn’t look ‘bad’ per se but the proportions of the plastron and skirt are slightly off as a result. That said, looking at pics the tailoring of the original uniforms was somewhat dubious so I’m not going to beat myself up over it. I think the cap brim needs more thinning too.

Hi Stefan

Nice work on the buttons , regarding the torso comments , I think your right but looking I think it’s the upper part above the girdle that’s looking too long ....but it’s your figure and you have it in front of you !

Ref the slouch hat .....just a tad of thinning down will sort that

All credit to you for going for this ...it will certainly be worth it

Looking forward to seeing more

Happy putty pushing

Difficult to tell from a photo but I'd say he looks OK, the shapen of the plastron can make the torso look long. A pair of locking dividers, or even a pencil compass is good for taking measurements. Hopefully I've sent you a good article on anatomy and measurements of the body on Instagram, I couldn't work out how to get it on here. If it didn't get through give me a shout and I'll try again. Basically it breaks down the proportions of the body into head size junks, really useful when you are doubting proportions.

Cheers Simon

Thanks chaps, interestingly the proportions are close using Briggsy’s handy guide (thanks, I got it), just a tiny bit long in the torso. That said, compared to my references it’s way off, I’m going to put that down to using the proportions for an ‘ideal man’ whilst the references feature Yorkshire farmers at a time when malnutrition was creating a national crisis.

As I said, I’m happy, it’s my third figure and I’m no Carl Reid plus it looks good to the eye. I’m happy to produce a slightly idealised depiction rather than something spot on.

Pretty much done I think. The arms look a bit chunky in the photo but I think that’s mostly the camera, I still have a little thinning and adjusting to do here and there but I’m pretty happy overall.

One of the challenges in this is getting a natural pose, or rather posing a skeleton so that it will look natural when ‘dressed’. This one looks a little off to me, although I think that’s partly the angle of the head.

Hi Stefan

You should be happy , it’s good to see this virtually completed , a unique figure meaning even more as you sculpted it

Look forward to seeing the final bit of thinning etc ...and of course the painting

Have fun @ the bench

That's a really good effort, and the photo may be distorting the proportions a little as well. For me, the sleeves of the jacket are too bulky, especially the lower half, which is contributing to the top heavy look. But it's far better than I could manage, so well done!

Really beautiful work Stefan, mightily impressed, I agree with Nigel re the sleeve but other than that he looks great. To be fair a relaxed pose is far harder to achieve than an action pose, there have been any number of figures on the market that haven't got this right, less so now a days though. Looking forward to seeing him painted.

Cheers Simon

Maybe try putting a little colour in his cheeks and on his nostrils, unless you've already done that and the photography has bleached it out.

Cheers Simon

Hi Stefan

That face looks good so far ,push the highs a bit like you have planned and a bit of cheek colour as Simon suggested

Have fun @ the bench

Hi all, it’s been a long time since I updated the thread, I’ve been away with work and then school holidays got in the way. I’ve made a fair amount of progress, these colours aren’t easy to work with that’s for sure.

I think I’m nearly done, very much ‘tweaking’ things. The one thing I’m really bothered by is the cap cords, how to make them stand out more short of a really dark wash?

IMG_9810.jpeg

Nice work Stephan, the blue and khaki are really quite striking. For the cap lines I'd suggest a pin wash and the some highlights where they bend and on the acorns. Cracking piece I really like it.

Cheers Simon
