A Fixture
Hi All,
I was fortunate enough to photograph these uniforms up close and thought they might be a valuable reference for some of you. To photograph these and not behind museum glass was a rare opportunity I could not pass up.
The uniforms belong to our club member Colin who very kindly brought them in to our last club meet and he has provided me with a description of each below.
cheers
Richie
THE UNIFORMS.
The Blue Tunic is to a Quartermaster Sergeant-Major of the 1st Berwick on Tweed Artillery Volunteers, signified by the 4 inverted chevrons with the 8 pointed star. The 4 pointed star is a volunteer proficiency badge issued to sergeants after one year. The 5 pointed stars are efficiency badges each issued for 5 completed years in the volunteer forces.
The Red Tunic is to a Retired (signified by the ‘R’) Sergeant of the 2nd VB of the West Riding Regiment (Duke of Wellingtons Regiment). Five pointed stars as above
The Forage cap is to an officer of the 68th Regiment c1860 (68th became 1st Battalion Durham Light Infantry) I am still researching the pattern date.
The 1861 pattern Officers Shako is to Colonel Robert William Disney Leith as 1st Commanding officer of the 106th Regiment 1862-1866 (106th became 2nd Battalion Durham Light Infantry)
The 1878 pattern Officers Green Cloth Home Service Helmet is to 2nd Lieutenant R.H. Style of the 4th Battalion Durham Light Infantry c1900
