I work in the miniature realm of fantasy miniature figures and vignettes (25mm/28mm) size. This posting is a cross section of my works in this small scale realm...also posted are (2) vignettes from what I call " Nostalgic Americana " in 1/72nd scale. 001 (7).JPG022 (3).JPGALC.001.JPG035.JPG008 (2).JPGAMAZ#5.002.JPGAMAZ#6.004.JPGAPOCGIRL.006.JPGJACK004.JPGMOONSHINE011.JPGRED004.JPGSF002.JPGSTMPNK.002.JPGWM001.JPGWT001.JPG

Those aren't bad at all mate, they are a lot better than I could do in this scale for sure, I like the steam punky wench with the Kitchener poster especially. About the only thing I could say is and it might be the light they look a little too bright and stark maybe a slightly darker wash on the highlights ?

Very imaginative vignettes. The scenes all tell an easily recognizable story. The ground work is very detailed and well done and the figs are very cleanly painted. Steve is also right, some more shading and highlighting will give the figs more depth... unless the bright, hard lined, animation style is exactly what you were going for... In which case you hit it dead on.
Look forward to seeing more of your work

Welcome to PF

I wish to thank the above (4) members for their comments...In my work (in this small scale); I do an art draft sketch of how I want the scene to play out...and then execute the piece following that script. I try to express a solid story/theme in the (1) selected scene...that is played out on a (50mm round base) or a (4"x4" square wooden base)...I try to paint crisp, bold, colorful miniatures that are styled towards (anime)...I try to stay away from deep washes/shadings (since they are not the common reflective images of the anime style)...Please keep in mind; that I have only been painting the/my miniature figures for about (14 months)...but I have been building landscape vignettes for over 35 years for both myself...model competitions...and professional commission work...On both the vignettes and the nostalgic pieces...most everything is scratch built (98%) except for the actual miniature figures involved.

Catdancer, glad to see you on this forum too (it would have been a shame for Reaper to have you all to themselves;)) .

Hi captnenglish!...Great to run into and hear someone from my other forum...I just joined this site and was very hesitant to get involved due to the fact that most everything I have viewed here was large scale figures & modern era/historical military...and a very strong Napoleonic flavor. I just posted (15) of my small scale pieces (expecting some ridicule for my small stuff...so far it hasn't come).

Do you know if there are other members from the Reaper site on here as members...it would ease my angst to know that I had some old friends here?

I'm going to check out your materials on this site as soon as I post this note to you...Paul.

In common with feedback from the other guys in this thread, I really like these small vignettes as well. I was a bit intimidated when I first began posting here, kind of half expecting my efforts to be greeted with raucous laughter - but that simply doesn't happen. What does tend to happen is that the newcomer is warmly welcomed and where appropriate offered advice, help and assistance that allows us to introduce improvements into our work. At least, that's been my experience here.

Everyone has their own preferences as to scale, era's, mediums (white metal, plastic, resin), and so on. I tend to concentrate on 54mm with the occasional venture into 75mm. I do have quite a few examples of 28mm ~ 32mm in my vast grey army, but haven't got around to them as yet. This year has been a complete hobby washout for me due to completely insane work commitments, but these ought to calm down by the end of 2013, allowing much more time for painting and diorama fun next year.

So, catdancer, welcome to PF and I hope to see more of your work being posted here. Believe me, these smaller scales scare me and I hope to pick up some hints and tips from you on how to make these "pop" in the way you've shown with these examples.

Cheers
H

Thank you (H) and the rest of the site members who have welcomed me (and my small scale miniature vignette pieces). Thank you for your approval and your kind words of like and acceptance into this (land of the giants).

I do have a question! If I wish to add more photos...do I have to start a new thread or can I add them to my original thread (above)...if I can add to the above...how do I go about doing so? Again, please make the instructions/directions (very simple, so as a " computer idiot ", I can understand the process)...Thank you...Paul.

Here are some more of my miniature figure postings...this posting includes...a scratch built pond & cart (28mm)...an Inquisitor (54mm)...(4) shots of a wharf baitshop exterior (1/32nd scale)...an Eldar Harlequin (40K)...the rest are standard solo fantasy figures and fantasy vignettes in (28mm)...Paul.001.JPG019 (2).JPG038.JPGBAIT002.JPGBAIT003.JPGBAIT004.JPGBAIT006.JPG005 (4).JPG002 (3).JPG003 (5).JPG004 (7).JPG031 (3).JPG037 (2).JPG045.JPG003.JPGBC001.JPGDOUBLE001.JPGSAVGAR.001.JPGPUNK.007.JPG

Some kool stuff on here. Your 54mm Inquisitor goes with the 54mm Space Marine I just finished... it was a coin toss between these two figs.

The detail on your scenes are really deep, speaking of the wharf/baitshop, awesome! Do you game with these figs or are they strictly for collection?

When you do some new ones be sure to show your works in progress (I sound like my old math teacher)

Cheers

Thank you for your comments...fully appreciated by this newbie. If you have the time/chance; check out the (2) dioramas that I posted on (Showcase)...(Junk/Salvage Yard in 1/72nd scale) & (Helfax Wharf Workshop in 1/35th scale)...both are nothing but tiny details and both are (90+%) scratch built...Let me know what you think of them.

I am a (GM) and have an adult fantasy group...the solo fantasy figures are used in my tabletop (3D) fantasy adventures...The fantasy vignettes are strictly (private collection)...the " Nostalgia Americana" pieces where built for major model contests (I competed for 5 years back in the 70's)...all the " amazon female & pirate female " figures are also (private collection)...I love female amazon, pirate and steampunk miniatures in (25mm-32mm) scale.

I appreciate your request to show/post one of my projects as a (WIP)...but I feel there is no real need for that...taking into consideration, that the members on this site are experienced veteran and/or professional quality modelers/painters...I feel that there is nothing that I can show/demonstrate to these followers that they don't already know...Paul.

BIKINI BEACH CLUB...This is a (28mm) novelty vignette that I just completed. It is completely scratch built (except for the female figure/which is a Hasslefree miniature). The vignette is on a (4"x4") wooden base and a (3"x3") ceiling tile riser. I use ceiling tile for/on (90%) of my vignettes due to001.JPG013.JPG004.JPG007.JPG008.JPG011.JPG009.JPG the fact that it is so easy to work with.

This series shows my work(s) in ultra tiny scale (dioramas)...featured are a small castle...a ruined black tower...an orc compound and a wayside inn and surrounding buildings. These are all scratch built in (7mm & 10mm) scale.
