I've now fitted the cloak in position, sadly it didn't fit as well as I'd hoped. It left a 2mm gap at the back by the hood.
This has been filled with Magic-Sculpt, I also need to make an adjustment near the clasp over the figures right shoulder.
With regard to the cross on the shield, I'd originally thought to try and make a template and mark the cross out using an airbrush.
This going quite go to plan, so I ended up doing it all freehand.
It needs a little tidying up, before adding further detail and weathering.

I'll bet the cloak fit perfectly before painting, the shield looks bloody good. Got to admit to not using an airbrush because I spend more time cleaning the damn thing than painting with it.

Cheers Kev

Cheers Simon, the cloak did fit better before painting, but not perfectly, there was still a gap. fingers crossed I can make good all the issues.
Cleaning a airbrush can take a little time, but can be worth it in the long run, although on this occasion, I'm very pleased with the finish on the cross, no brush marks.
With my dodgy hands I wasn't expecting to get a neat finish as I did.

The cloak was always a poor fit on this model. The trick was to get the balance of filling and filing as near to right as you can. I'd say you've done a very decent job of that.
Heraldry is always a bit of a trade off some genuine historical examples are spectacularly detailed and accurate representations of symbols and images others are much more 'abstract'.
Always liked the approach Pete Armstrong of the sadly missed Border Miniatures took which was to an extent embrace the hand painted and asymmetrical approach of originals.

Hi Malc

Thanks Del, I was only saying to a friend who's working on the same figure, that it could've been designed a bit better.
Pete Armstrong produced a very nice range and I have a book of his on heraldry. Very useful.

Cheers Nap, Unfortunately when I went to make further progress this morning, I noticed the fit of the cloak over the figures right shoulder wasn't right.
I had no choice but to carefully remove it and start again. Thankfully this time it fitted better, then it was just a matter of adding the filler and putting it aside to dry.

I'm running out of quips to add to my comments, and I've been tardy getting to your work, Malc, my bad. Winter prep is taking up most of my time and everything else, as life is, but I finally get a look-see at your progress, excellent, looking mighty fine to me. Ruck On, Brother!

Hi Malc

Well done on the second putty work on the cloak , must admit painting this much black scares me but your really pulling this piece together , like the worn look

Look forward to seeing more

Have fun @ the bench
