Hi Mike, well this is awesome. cant wait to see the completed vignette. I cant help but wonder why you haven't tackled Andy's Gallipoli charge, your style would suit it immensely although it would be a big undertaking.
Cheers Les.
GO the AB's!!!

Hi Les, good to hear from you mate :)

Am thankful for the kind comments.
Gotta admit 5 figures is a fair undertaking & lots of background work goes into pulling this together.
Not sure I could get through 10figures especially with the emotions Andy's Charge scene stirs in me.
I admire those who do the big dioramas, a feat I'm not quite up for with the many priorities I juggle.

Trust you understand.

Stay safe,
Mike

AB's BELIEVE!!!

... At first I thought you'd said "exudes Australian" ;)
Was wondering if you were trying to wind me up :)
Like saying to a Welshman, he's English or a Canadian he's a Yank!

He's very much a young Kiwi, though the ANZAC boundaries around nations were blurred more in those days. ....

You're quite right, I did say that. It was a totally unintentional mistake (generally known as a 'brain fart'), and I corrected it as soon as I realised what I'd done.
Many apologies.

Andrew

Hi Mike,
Love the extra detail you add with the paint which stands up fully to your close up photography.
Looking forward to more progress.
Andy

These couple of little guys will be around still when you visit Andy, so Chand to see in the flesh & tell me what they really look like in miniature. Photos are so much bigger & controlled perspective, but important way to tell our stories.

Stay safe,
Mike

Your painting style is very understated, but manages to be so poignantly vivid.
Looking forward to seeing your next step with this vignette.

Cheers,
Andrew

Hi Andrew,

Thanks for the interesting comments, made me reflect :)
Always appreciate others views as I work alone so few get to see my figures in flesh & I'm never quite sure what they actually look like.

Photos are also a lot larger than figures & much clearer than my eyesight ;)

Stay safe
Mike

Just as you have nailed down the colors and textures of uniform, webbing and equipment, you have likewise convincingly depicted a freckled, light skinned, carrot topped dude (too bad he is hurting). Well done Mike (y)!

Thanks as always Joe :)
Light skin is part of Archie's redhead complexion but is also more green & blood drained sadly too.

Well onto "Alf" now & expect he'll make an appearance next week.

Stay tuned...

As some one has pointed out before, your painting style suits these figures, none more so, than in this figure.
With Remembrance Day coming up soon, this is a poignant reminder.

Man this is moving along quick!
You have another first rate piece here Mike! I think that poor Alf's wounds were very well handled (y).
Joe

Thanks Joe & Bob, particularly like this figure study from Steve.
Tried to capture the effects of time on the hill on his skin & clothing without overdoing it.
Always feel I want to pay homage for the sacrifice, without being tacky.

Agree with Rememberance Day upon good to know this small artwork helps provide a relevant reminder.

We will remember them...

G'day Mike, exceptional paint job mate.
Couple of questions, Vic, he is wearing the Lemon squeezer, is this correct for Gallipoli? I always assumed (I know, don't assume anything), that the Lemon squeezer was introduced after 1916?
Archie, we would have called him "Blue".
Cheers Jason
