could i convert a modern army uniform into a marine one so it looks like a sniper uniform?

the thing is i do not what type uniform US Army or USMC?

I am trying to do my first major conversion by making "Gunny" Gibbs in 1/35 th scale and i several boxes from three companies and they MasterBox,Trumpeter and Tamiya also DML for the sniper rifle unless someone can tell me if there is a better company for this figure.

The last time i tried was with Bill Merklin at one of our meetings and i tried but did not come out the way i wanted to. P.S. he used clay.

What company will be producing this figure?

I have several boxes of Airfix figures one Cavalier Roundhead and three boxes of George Washington but i do not do how do put them together at all so how can i use them or do them is anyway of learning how to both puting them to together and painting them.
