    "Air pipe" Helmet

Thanks guys, I knew this would be a tough nut to crack. this type of helmet was pretty short lived. Mike: I've seen examples of the "coxcomb" police helmet on e-bay, and I wondered if it was the same design. The search continues...

    "Air pipe" Helmet

I'm trying to find referances for an early style of British sun helmet, sometimes called the "air pipe" helmet because of the peculiar crest-like vent on top. These were worn in the Indian Mutiny and Abyssinian Campaigns. Uniform plates are of minimal value. If you can point me in the direction...

    pinning figure

If you pin both feet, and drill two holes in the temporary base, you won't need to use glue or putty to hold it steady. Leave some of the pin showing below the foot in case you have to grasp it with pliersto remove the figure.

    My first portrait bust

Nice job Matt! I would only say that the neck looks a bit long, and the bulge of the cheeks too low. A model of a human skull is a good referance for getting the planes of the face right, and remember that the neck rises at a forward angle from the front of the shoulders, rather that straight up...

    What is Bad Taste?

I think the motive of the artist should be considered when discussing "bad taste". I believe there is a basic level of "morality" which transcends politics, religion or culture (most every civilized person agrees murder and brutality are bad). I don't have a problem with anyone who wants to...

WE Boston will be using the same "open system " used at the Chicago Show. A detailed explanation can be found at: http://p2.hostingprod.com/@mmsichicago.com...rds_system.html

    Thank You

Purely coincidental, guys, it's Malcom McDowell as Flashman. Groucho Marx was already taken. :)

    Thank You

I think I speak for SCAHMS when I say: thank YOU for coming to the show! Like many clubs, we were anticipating a low turn out due to folks saving for Boston, but our regional modelers, and a hard core of international guests really came through and saved the day. Glad you had a good time. Randy

    Rough Rider

Thanks John. The arms on the fig I'm working on now needed to be positioned precisely to cross at the wrist, and grasp a weapon. I couldn't come up with a method that allowed me to assemble and make adjustments to the arm sections, so I just replaced them with a wire armature. I'd be interested...

    Rough Rider

Lookin' good John, I like that scale too! I t looks like you used a UEM mannequin for this guy? If so, did you use the arm sections provided? I couldn't figure out how to put these together temporarily while adjusting the pose.

    Latest figure

Nicely done Alan! It reminds me of a painting by Tom Lovell, except his features a plains Indian finding a rag doll on a wagon trail. Yours is better. ;)

    Karl XII of Sweden

Beautiful work Gary! I'm amazed at how smooth and well formed the features are.

    Always go right?

Some famous guy once said:"We don't do these things because they are easy, we do them because they are hard". I have agonized for days over re-painting, or re-sculpting a portion of a figure, but I never regret doing it afterward; the second try is always an improvement. On the other hand...

    Favourite Bill Horan creation

Too many choices, but "Ghosts of Chilianwallah" gets my vote for best story telling, with heart-rending pathos.

    SS panzergrenadier

Nice SBS Pete! I need to try this out some time. One question: I assume the shading and highlighting glazes would be different depending on the cammo colors. Is there a rule of thumb you use to select the glaze colors, or have you determined which colors to use through experimentation. If that...
