    Heads for historex bodies

Paulo, most of the heads I sculpted for MIG Productions will suit the size of Historex figures. Here's the link to the full selection: http://migproductionswebshop.com/index.php?cPath=27_55 Einion

    Poll: motor tool brands

That's great to hear Brad, can't ask for better service than that. I'm not trying to beat up on Dremel, but as I say there are lots of reports (lots) of the shoddy build quality in recent years (I think since Black & Decker bought them). Minicraft user here too. They've been gone for years now...

    Poll: motor tool brands

I've been looking at options for a new motor tool for myself over the past months and while Dremel wasn't exactly heading my shopping list as it was after reading numerous reports of their poor build quality in recent years I would have crossed it off anyway. So thought this might be a good...

Acrylics What do you chaps use to protect your figures?

Technically nothing, but they are kept in a display cabinet so that dust doesn't settle on them (too much). I'm not a fan of overcoats/varnish if they're avoidable, since it's one less thing to go wrong. What effects are you seeing? Einion

    New Andrea Miniatures

That bear head is awful, but the rest looks nicely enough sculpted. This could be very popular with painters. Einion

    New Andrea Miniatures

I like it! Firmly and unashamedly in the fantasy realm as it is it looks very nicely sculpted. Great little non-serious figure for people who like that kind of thing. Einion

    Sculpting a sword video-tutorial

In addition to filing the fuller in with a riffler file as shown in the vid you can make yourself a custom scraping tool just for this purpose. You might not even have to make one if any of your drill bits have nice flat bottoms, the edge could be good enough to scrape plastic or epoxy putty...

    Advice wanted

Jason, if you don't have any hairspray in the house you don't necessarily have to go and get some (cheap as it can be). You can substitute other things that have similar properties, basically something that dries but isn't waterproof. Einion

Germanic-Roman Warrior, 1st Century A.D.- Pegaso Models new

To be fair there's an important principle to bear in mind, absence of evidence is not evidence of absence. It is quite reasonable to assume that someone might use a piece of kit picked up from a fallen foe for example - we know for sure this happened in multiple eras in the past, from the...

Germanic-Roman Warrior, 1st Century A.D.- Pegaso Models new

I like the sculpting on this, but I wish it didn't use so many clichés of what Germanics looked like. And at this size I'd expect the shield to be more in-scale than this, it's far too thick. It could easily be half this thickness and cast well so it's a sculpting issue, not a production...

If this is actual fabric then a dilute solution of PVA is one of the commonest stiffening agents recommended. Einion

    help getting maps to behave

If it's made from paper you can crease it (fold like the real thing) then try dampening it to get the paper soft and it'll behave more in-scale that way. You can score ahead of time to help ensure the folds go where you want them to; use something blunt enough you won't cut into the paper. If...

    Just a ???????

Welcome Mark. If you have an airbrush it's well worth breaking it out for figs using zenithal spraying as it can really help both with quality of results and speed. It's of most help with busts and large-scale figures because of the larger surface area of course, but you can use the same...

Boonie hat advice needed,Help please guys

I think Jason's method is the way to do this Richard, especially at larger scales where you'll want some actual 3D texture to the seaming. At smaller scales you may be able to get away with painting the illusion of them, as we do on most clothing seams, in which case lead foil is worth trying...
