Spanish Husar de Ontoria First Carlist War 1833-39

Nice figure, Simon! You're having fun with horses these days, aren't you? I'll second Nigel on subject, your conversion work and your animation, too. That's a nice addition to your collection. Prost! Brad

    Hello

Welcome to the Planet, Shaun! I think a lot of us travelled the same path from scale models with figures, to focusing on figures. I grew up on Monogram, Revel, Airfix, Tamiya, and they all included at least 1 figure with a subject, and often several. I cut my teeth on those, from 1/32 armor...

    Painting Straight and uniform lines

I agree. That's what I would do, too. I wouldn't dismiss using tape, necessarily, but the danger I'd want to avoid is lines of paint built up along the edges of the tape, and paint bleed under the tape. Those can be reduced as much as possible, but I'd rather avoid having to deal with them in...

Us "Corporal Jones " type painters.

The hobby is not dying, but tastes are changing. That is, more people enter the hobby-painting miniature figures-via fantasy/sci-fi and wargaming, than as fans of Napoleonic hussars (I'm 60 and I don't much care for Napoleonic hussars, either). We see the two groups, historical and fantasy...

    Pegaso / White metal re-casts?

I have seen white metal recasts of resin figures, and resin recasts of white metal figures. You really have to educate yourself, if you want to avoid pirate copies. Prost! Brad

VISION-AID by Neat & Handy on Facebook

I got myself that type of magnifier a couple of years ago, as a supplement to my Red Chinese knock-off Optivisor obtained at Historicon years ago. I got the magnifier through Facebook, too; the vendor does not maintain a website. He sells via his Facebook page. I wanted a magnifier with more...

I should add that I'm fairly certain members of the NCMSS are Planeteers, too.

Hi, Benny, the National Capital Model Soldier Society is the first one that comes to mind. Their website is https://www.ncmssclub.org/. It looks like their next meeting is on the 24th. There are directions on their Meetings page at the website; they're held in Alexandria VA. I recommend them...

    Mounted bands Napoleonic

I still buy Phoenix Georgian and Victorian kits and figures whenever I can find them. They fit in with my 18th century and Kaiser's Army/Berlin 1910 collections. I also snap up the diorama pieces, like furniture. I wish I could find the vacuform wall sets they made. I've only seen them...

    Mounted bands Napoleonic

King-White/Reeves also produced a Napoleonic line infantry band, but also on foot and also in 54mm, larger than the wargaming scale. Nice figures, though. Forerunners of King & Country and Frontline. Phoenix made some bands in smaller scale, back in the day, but I don't know that the range...

WIP The clutter that is my bench!

In my case, Pennsylvania Dutch. We give the Scots a run for their money as far as frugality is concerned. Around here, we call it being Dutchy. "Don't throw that out! You never know, we might need it again some day!" Prost! Brad

Outstanding Herr Markgraf! Your command group is a diorama in its own right. Prost! Brad

    Source of decent drill bits.

Sure thing! Yeah, though that set has some very fine bits, I use mostly the ones in the #60s range, and a #72, I think. Those match the wire stock I use for pinning. The bits I bought to drill steel are #62s, too. Prost! Brad

WIP The clutter that is my bench!

The containers on the hutch back represent an ongoing effort to organize the grey army and supplies. I got tired of looking for things I knew I had but couldn't find, and of buying duplicates of things without realizing it. Containers, and labels! I still have a pile of stuff, though, too...

    Source of decent drill bits.

I use generic bits: I got that from a tool liquidator at a woodworking show; you never know where you're going to find things. However, I do not chuck these into a rotary tool for drilling. I use them in a pin vise. A rotary tool is too much power for the task, for me. Your mileage may...
