    Best ten bucks I've spent.

Whoops, I guess I should've linked it. Oh yeah, that check valve is worth the price of admission by the way. I've read plenty of warnings of the cheaper ones (which aren't cheaper anyway) spitting oil from the exhaust. I've got enough to deal with when casting, I don't want a vacuum pump...

    Best ten bucks I've spent.

Hey Gordy, You didn't miss anything, I forgot to supply that info. After researching and shopping around (used, cheap, etc.) I decided that a single stage would do (that could pull at least 29 inches) and the going rate was around $100. Ultimately I settled for the Mastercool 062-A. It's 3.0...

    Best ten bucks I've spent.

After some great advice from fellow Planeteers for accelerating the cure of ApoxieSculpt, I picked up a small, cheap Rival Crock Pot. Without the 'crock', this unit gets up to a steady 110 degree Fahrenheit on low, 125 on high. Perfect for curing Aves in about 30-45 minutes. I glued a dowel to...

    Question of addiction?

Yep, it's a constant battle for me. Whether in armor modeling or figures, I have to consciously try to retain focus. It's always a matter of oooh wait, something shi

Copyright, parts re-use and a proposal?

I think it's a nice idea, but almost impossible to implement. It would have to be 'across the board' changes to copyright law or it would just lead to assumptions and excuses for plagiarism. Artists have been 'stealing' from each other since caves in France. 'Copying' is another thing...

    vacuum pot

I use pressure (30 PSI) and until last week, never had any trouble with bubbles. A high pour with a thin stream usually won't trap air. Then I switched silicone and had this strange bubble collection on the soles of boots I was casting. It sort of created a large void that thickened the boot...

Big news in a Miniature world

Integrity is too important to mess with, especially for online business. Even if he avoids jail, that's gotta be a fatal blow. There are other ways to protect your employees and business than falsely charging $190,000. Who's to say any other transactions were honest?

    1/16 (120mm) busts?

Just curious, but I been searching around and while there's a wealth of 1/16 figures, I can't find that many busts to choose from. Is it not an widely used scale for busts, not considered acceptable or just my bad searching?

    Apoxie Sculpt advises

    Buyer BEWARE of Internet Hobbies!!!

I'd push a bit more, get on the phone with Paypal if you haven't, the online filing can grind on waiting for a vendor response, if you've been patient (and you have) they usually give you what you want. They have to retain user confidence.

    Questions about mixed media.

An update: I mixed up some Aves white for my son to fix seams on his Komet kit (snow day here in NY) and figured I'd experiment a bit. Didn't get a crock pot yet, so I stuck a bit in front of a Halogen fixture and sure enough, when I checked 15 minutes later it was hard as rock. Unbelievably...

    Questions about mixed media.

Thanks guys, you have helped me out tremendously. The human head is something I'm familiar with (I have one :)) and has always been relatively easy for me to recreate. Even in Aves, it's usually no more than a 2-3 step process: sculpt, detail and repair. The major adjustment was to size, but...

    Questions about mixed media.

So, conceivably I could sculpt a pair of boots, cure it while mixing more Aves, when it's lost it's tack, I could sculpt trousers, cure and mix, etc... That's a perfect solution to my needs. So just a dry, uncovered Crock pot on low?

    Questions about mixed media.

Hey Einion, thanks for the reply. I tried the assembly line approach at first, but found that if I made a mistake it was just compounded by the number of things I was trying. I'm still learning and I'm the type who needs to figure things out piece by piece until I have the whole process lined...
