    X-Periment - No theme, No scale ...

Interesting piece of sculpture, lovely colour patina. Not sure about the red, but as always these things are subjective. It will be interesting to see what others think, as this place tends towards very literal figurative sculpture. Look forward to seeing more stuff. [maybe even post a...

    Newcomer sends his regards

All great advice, but also remember besides looking at reference pics, do take some time to study figurative sculpture/painting/drawing from all ages from ancient to modern. And you don't have to practice your anatomy working small, you can get your self a lump of modelling wax and play at a...

Joan of Arc bust - 1/9th

Hi Calvin Thanks! I am a real enthusiast of those pre war machines and the guys that drove them, great subjects for sculpture , especially those really old pioneering vehicles from the dawn of motoring history. Just insane watching that old footage! Puts modern carbon fibre monocoques...

Joan of Arc bust - 1/9th

Wow thanks, such a great response from everyone!:D I am sure you all know what it like working away at a project it is often hard to see the woods from the trees, so it can be a bit tense showing a piece for the first time, especially as this IS the first time anyone has seen this. So I was a...

    Sad news.

I was shocked to see this thread! What sad news, my condolences to his family. Whilst I had yet to have the honour of meeting the man in person I was greatly looking forward to it, as we had many pleasurable chats on the phone. What a shame, here's to you Roy! Mark

1812 Russian Unicorn Cannon Kit Review

That is a VERY nice piece indeed! Lots of work in those fine wheels:eek: I am a bit of an ancient artillery fan myself, having a soft spot for really early stuff. Especially love the Elizabethan 'coffee pot' breach loaders and stubby mortars etc. I also have real passion for wheelock's...

    A figure too good?

I am not a painter [well not for a very very long time] but i reckon looking at some fine old painting of the subject and period could be a good way to get fired up to begin work. Plus if the sculpture is top notch it will also force you to up your game and do an even better job. I have...

    Michael Miniatures - Sneak Peak

Hi Matt Haha, know what you mean, the artists curse! What you make always falls short of what you imagine you will make. It usually takes time away or making the next piece before you gain some perspective and begin to appreciate your own efforts. working in epoxy also means radical...

    A figure too good?

If you love it unpainted, maybe just paint it white or grey to best show up its contours and superb sculpting. Nothing wrong with collecting pieces purely for the sculpting.[well being sculptor I am a bit biased...hehe] Then if you are still dying to paint it, buy another one![muahahahaha]...

    Michael Miniatures - Sneak Peak

all that uniform detail would drive me nuts! Not surprised it took the time it did. Especially as you like to work with the 'hard stuff' [as do I]. well worth the effort though, a very grand piece! M

    Andrea Miniatures New Releases

I am shocked:eek: So all these manufacturers will keep a tool going until it just turns out crap? I realise tooling costs money, but so do lost customers! Though I can imagine a scenario where order values V retooling costs create a, 'ok just one more spin' situation.

    Andrea Miniatures New Releases

Just because something has been in production for a while does not mean an excuse for a drop in quality! If the manufacturer is using worn moulds for production , shame on them! When a mould shows signs of wear it should be replaced. The manufacturer should have perfect submasters to produce...

    Tips for Cleaning Resin Figures

I guess there are lots of ways but , just need a bit of skill to get the best results. I have not used dremel for years, did not much like them back in the day, I am sure they are better now. Got to have a decent foot controller for speed and nice narrow handpiece for delicate work.
